“Woman of Steel” is a homage to the cosmic power of the Black feminine spirit, emerging from darkness like a mythic oracle forged from metal itself, both earthly and celestial, ancestral and futuristic. Her pain turns into armour, her wounds into wisdom. These glints of light suggest a constellation, a sky written in scars and triumph. This is not a woman broken by history but one tempered by it.

“Woman of Steel” challenges narrow ideas of femininity by presenting strength not as the absence of vulnerability but as the ability to transform it. It speaks to the women who carry generations on their backs and still rise, those who bend but do not break.

NABIR YO
Echoes of Grandma’s Hands, 2024
Textile, Tint, Sisal & Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 100 CM

Nabir Yo honors her grandmother, a formative influence whose quiet labor and creative ingenuity shaped her earliest encounters with art. As a child, she would sit and watch her sew, captivated by the rhythmic motion of her hands and amazed by the beauty of the finished pieces. Her grandmother eventually passed this skill on to her, and sewing became an intergenerational thread at the heart of her practice

TIBEB SIRAK
The Weight of the Unseen, 2025
Woodcut Print and Acrylic on Canvas
140 x 90 CM

The Weight of the Unseen speaks to memory, heritage, and the invisible burdens carried across generations. The subject is enveloped by history and culture, reinforcing themes of permanence and lineage while evoking a sense of identity and tradition—a space where past and present seem to merge. The artwork creates a dialogue between the physical and the ephemeral, the known and the hidden, inviting us to reflect on the weight of history, cultural inheritance, and the silent narratives that define us.
