Most people only see the finished barn door.

What they don’t see is the race against drying glue, the tool issues, and the extra steps required to make sure a custom door stays flat, smooth, and built to last.

During this build, we ran into a few unexpected challenges, but that’s part of custom woodworking. The details matter.

When Eric says, “Flat is very important,” he’s thinking years down the road—not just the day the door is installed.

The result? A custom barn door built to match the client’s existing doors and fit their home perfectly.

A little woodworking trick from the shop today.

It was humid and raining while we were gluing up a custom barn door, so Eric spread some leftover glue into a small container at the same thickness as the glue on the panel.

When the sample dries, he knows the glue-up is getting close too.

Simple idea. Helpful information.

Sometimes it’s the little tricks learned over years in the shop that make all the difference.

Too thin can feel cheap. Too thick can feel bulky and out of proportion.

As Eric says, “It loses its elegance.”

The girls bring home artwork almost every day, so Eric built these display boards for their school room.

He used reclaimed corrugated metal paired with live edge wood shelves so we can easily rotate their drawings and projects.

I love when something practical becomes part of the design of a room.
