Sharing some progress iPhone shots of a project that is more near and dear to my heart than I’ll ever be able to describe. Let’s just say that this is not the first time I’ve had my hands all over this kitchen AND that the client may or may not be one of my closest friends. We’ve still got one more round of installing to do before it’s a wrap but even so, it’s hard to deny how lovely the new iteration of this wonderful kitchen is turning out. When your friends trust you with their homes - and still love you afterwards! …it’s the greatest compliment and joy. kitchendesign

This shower wall used to be 96” long with a plastic tub/shower combo. Not gonna lie - it was hideous (I can say that cause I owned it). We did 3 things that changed the game. 1. We dropped a wall to shorten a section for a standalone 60” porcelain enamel tub 2. Created an arch and drug the drywall out to create a niche for her 3. Used the remaining 28” on that 96”wall for a skinny but totally functional shower! Now: some cladding decisions that won the day - where the old tub had been, we raised the floor and used a slab of honed white marble to set the new tub on (putting the tub on a sort of pedestal step). This allowed us to not have to replace the Saltillo flooring in the room which was the one thing worth saving (wish you could see it in this photo!). And lastly, we used 12x24 Medina Brushed Limestone (one of my go-to’s) (usually reserved for flooring) on the wall continuing on through the shower walls. The result feels pure, rich and spa like. 🛁🫧🧴

I LOVE to put a little “primitive” spin on this when I can… Why? Because ☝️ Primitive Line and Modern Line can often be read as close relatives rather than opposites. A primitive line is usually direct, elemental, and hand-felt. That same quality can be interpreted as modern line because modernism also values reduction, clarity, abstraction, and the removal of excess ornament. When I can blur the line between what would be seen as handmade or primitive - and modern, we keep things looking super fresh and interesting. This can be seen in the vanity design in this sweet little en suite, I still love!

5 years ago we rebuilt this kitchen after California wildfires tore through the canyons above Malibu. Back then I couldn’t sell GREEN to a single client. What a difference 5 years makes! After scores of requests we are finally spilling the beans and sharing this elusive shade. Drumroll paleeeze……. It is JADE ROMANESQUE #476 by Benjamin Moore. You are welcome! 📸 💐

Our incredible friend and filmmaker made a documentary! 🎬 It blew our minds and our hearts and I really hope you all get the chance to see it! It’s called and it premiered at LA’s Latino International Film Festival this weekend It follows 3 migrant families over a 7 year period. This epic undertaking humanizes the people behind the headlines and reminds us of our shared humanity. Why I think it’s groundbreaking is because it removes the polarization of politics and helps us see the challenges asylum seekers face and the broken immigration system - from a lens of our collective… Oneness. They say that the longest road is from the head to the heart, and the shortest is from the heart to the head. I think that has paved that shorter road with this important piece of work. One of the ironic hallmarks of this tumultuous era we find ourselves living, is that seemingly intractable situations have the power to find solutions. May this gorgeous film help us find them here.

When summer arrives, the Courtyard Dining Room becomes the most popular room “in” the house. But you know, it was severely burned in the CA wildfires. I don’t think I’ve ever posted the two iterations of this beloved space side-by-side 🤔 Here they are. We’ve loved it both ways. It’s a hard space to screw up - the bones are so good. Here’s to another summer of friends and family gathered in this special spot. 🌞🙏💋

Life as an interior designer is way more grunt than glamour most days, but today…. is one of the fancy, pinch-me days. Attending Legends 2025 in the front row at a stellar panel discussion, listening to the great Nancy Meyer’s (interviewed by her daughters) talk about the influence of the sets on her iconic films. I don’t think there’s a better example of life imitating art than the environments we’ve come to crave through the stories she’s told. I mean… 🙌🙏🎬🎞️📽️💐
