Today a lovely local who recently moved back home wandered into the shop and said she was JAZZED to learn there’s an indie bookshop near her home (there wasn’t one when she moved away)

Well, we got to talking and I learned she was able to move back home because her part-time remote gig turned full-time.

And what is that full-time gig? NARRATING AUDIOBOOKS 🎙️

We yapped for the better part of the afternoon, saw photos of her in-home studio, listened to portions of her books (These Immortal Truths and These Godly Lies are officially next up in my LibroFM queue), and just generally had a fun time chatting books.

Check out Olivia narrations… she’s lovely!

Over 200 books were brought and over 160 of them were swapped for new homes! The rest are off to the library 👋

Thank you again for a fun lil swap this weekend! It was a perfect way to celebrate Book Lovers Day, and we learned a lot from our first swap that we hope to put into action for future ones!

Happy reading 🤗📚

New Tuesday, new books!

Signed editions, some reissues with beautiful covers, and a fall romance that Amy is convinced is a Rory and Jess Gilmore Girls fan fiction 👀

Looking for something specific and want a bookseller’s suggestion?

We’re starting something new - just for you!

Every week on Sunday (we hope - we’ll see what time allows 😉) we’ll post a question box in our stories (and a corresponding post) for you to drop a recommendation you’re looking for.

We’ll pick one (or more if we have time) each week, and we’ll pass the mic to as many of us booksellers as possible.

We’ll post a reel with the recs!

You’ll get to see our candid thought process while picking out a recommendation for someone, and might just leave with the perfect pick!

What are you looking for? Let us know in the comments and we might pick your request!

BTS: Receiving Books! 📦📚

Opening boxes of books every day is quite possibly one of the top 5 parts of this job for me. The dopamine! It’s like Christmas morning!

But it does come with lots of details to manage. Like:
✅ matching your invoices to your POS system for the books received and the amount charged for said books
✅ inspecting books for any damages, and reporting said damages (or even missing books) to the publisher or distributor
✅ waiting to hear back about said damages and if you received credit for them. Because we don’t want to pay an invoice for a damaged or missing book we can’t sell!
✅ setting aside special ordered books, notifying the customer it’s arrived, and setting it aside for pickup
✅ breaking down cardboard and packing material to ♻️ later or reuse for our own shipments
✅ checking publication dates and “strict on sale” notes so we don’t shelve a book too soon!
✅ shelving the book in the right section of the store

What’d I miss? 😅

We’d love to know what you’re curious about. Running a bookstore is a lot of work, and we love sharing what we do.

I mean, cmon, we happy dance when we see an anticipated release at the top of the stack inside a freshly opened box. Supporting your indie bookstore means supporting more happy dances and squeals 🤗

We think everyone should read more poetry!

The Sealey Challenge is a community challenge to read one book of poetry a day for the month of August.

Does that feel overwhelming? Start with reading one poem a day!

And we can even help point you in the direction of a thoughtful poem for you to start with 🫶

Kira, one of our booksellers, is passionate about reading, writing, and talking poetry. Yesterday she shared a poem called Tomorrow Is a Place written by Sanna Wani with a customer who had been chatting and giggling with us minutes earlier as we were creating multiple alternate realities in which we’re all best friends with Taylor Swift (😆) Minutes later, we were reflecting on friendship, aging, and time all because of the power of poetry.

What did you think after reading that poem with us?

What poetry will you read this month?
