As I go about my projects here in the shop I produce a borderline incredible quantity of fabric and foam scraps!
From the very beginning I wanted to focus on the sustainability aspect of upholstery, not simply saving furniture from the landfill, but minimizing my own environmental impact. I use scraps of fabric too small to be utilized for furniture and fabricate them into floor poufs that serve as my scrap bags until they are full. Once full the poufs are zipped up and ready to find a new home.

I was inspired by A Chick and a Chair Upholstery in Minnesota, after seeing her lovely poufs❤️ So, it's not my original idea, just a great one that helps keep approximately 500lbs/year of upholstery offcuts out of landfills.

Weighing in between 18lbs-75lbs, these are sturdy enough for kids to jump on, adults to sit on and make great footstools. Lovely and functional as they are, they serve the best purpose of all, reducing waste here in our community!

Poufs are available for a suggested donation of $50 each, with proceeds going back into our Albion community.

As a side note: Many other pieces of fabric, outdated or duplicate swatch books and sometimes even small tools (still useful, but not ideal for the upholstery application anymore) or flawed yardage end up on my free craft rack. The rack is located at the front of the shop and always has an assortment of free items for anyone with the desire to use them. I'll even help you brainstorm your project if you like.

*Full disclaimer: I definitely still produce trash here at the shop, but the waste that leaves my shop is limited to the unusable bits, worn fabrics, foams, staples/tacks and fibers taken off of furniture. I unfortunately cannot use these things again. Typically about 1-2 garbage bags/week.*

The roads are slick, so take care friends! If I'm completely honest, I am absolutely taking advantage of the nasty roads as an excellent excuse to make the shop "by appointment only" until January 2nd. Time to recuperate, fight back against entropy and get the shop/myself ready to hit the new year running.
