Last night, we hosted our 1st Annual Builder Appreciation Night at The Garden in Del Ray! 🍻

It takes a village to build great homes, and we’re incredibly grateful for the people who help us bring the Character Companies vision to life.

From our bankers and investors to our realtors, hardworking subcontractors, and incredible team, every person plays an important role in building not only beautiful homes, but the company we’re so proud of today.

Last night was all about bringing these people together, celebrating our partnerships, and saying THANK YOU for being part of our journey.

After months of planning, designing, and selecting every little detail, we finally get to see the kitchens, bathrooms, and custom built-ins take shape in real life. It’s the moment when a house really starts to feel like a home, and it never gets old!

Behind the Design: 6123 Woodmont Rd, Alexandria, VA

One of our favorite ways to add character to a new construction home? Thoughtful millwork.

From wall paneling to decorative trim, these architectural details bring depth, dimension, and a sense of history to a brand-new home.

At 6123 Woodmont, our interior designer, Abby, leaned into the home’s Colonial and traditional influences, even incorporating rosettes into the trimwork as a nod to the historic Virginia homes that surround it.

It’s these intentional details that make a new construction home feel timeless rather than brand new.

Because at Character Companies, we believe a home should have character from the very beginning.

The last renovation we’ll ever do! 🥹 A bittersweet milestone for Character Companies.

For some families, renovating the home they already love makes more sense than starting from scratch. And for this family, we’re excited to completely transform their home into a space they’ll love for years to come.

Our company’s roots are in real estate flips, investments, and renovations. But as we’ve grown and evolved, so has our focus. Today, our bread and butter is building semi-custom new construction homes that combine thoughtful design, timeless details, and plenty of character.

While we’re excited about where we’re headed, there’s something special about returning to where it all began for one final project.

Same home. Same memories. A whole new chapter.

One feature we’re seeing more and more buyers prioritize? A main-level bedroom with a full bathroom.

Multigenerational living is becoming an increasingly important consideration in home design, and we’re seeing it firsthand with both buyers and clients building with us.

The best part? This space doesn’t have to function as a bedroom right away.

Many of our clients are thoughtfully incorporating a main-level room with an attached bathroom into their floor plans, allowing it to serve as a home office today and easily transition into a guest suite or bedroom for aging parents down the road.

It’s all about designing a home that works for your life today while anticipating what you might need 10, 15, or even 20 years from now.

Wallpaper is one of our favorite ways to add character to a smaller space. If you’re hesitant to commit, laundry rooms and powder rooms are the perfect places to start.

We love incorporating wallpaper into our spec homes. Some builders may shy away from a detail that feels this personal, but we see it differently. It’s those thoughtful, personality-filled touches that make a brand-new home feel warm, collected, and lived-in from the moment you move in—not like a white box waiting for someone to give it character.
