It's devastating to see photos of the flooding in Avoyelles Parish. It reminds me so much of the water damage I worked to mitigate in historic properties in New Orleans after Katrina. I'm linking some excellent resources (specifically geared to historic properties, but helpful overall for dealing with water damage) because knowing what to do after the water recedes is the first step to recovery and rebuilding. Links below and in comments.

These resources can help historic building owners respond quickly and effectively to minimize property damage and ensure a safe return home.

I visited the JFK Presidential Library and Museum this past summer during our family vacation to Boston. Kudos to the archivists, historians, curators, and museum professionals who have expertly interpreted and displayed artifacts of all kinds so that they continue to teach and inspire us today. I hope we are all listening.

Even though I am sad to lose wonderful neighbors, I can't help but love it when For The Love Of Old Houses features my client's home! There is so much to love about this recently rehabbed property in Alexandria's National Register Garden District. I wouldn't change a thing!

It’s bittersweet to share that one of my favorite former tax credit and design projects is for sale! This house has been lovingly restored by owners who have become dear friends. They have been meticulous caretakers and made excellent design choices. This home is a gem in Alexandria’s National Register Garden District and you have my word that you will not find better neighbors. If I didn’t already live around the corner, I would have snatched this beauty up in a heartbeat.

In the studio this morning ✨ Did you know we’re open by appointment?

Our fabric room is full of inspiration and we love meeting with clients to peruse fabric and play with reupholstery options.

2024 was a year of change in many areas of my business and my daily life. I went into the year intending to make these changes, and I’m ending the year still navigating many of them, confident that I chose well for my business, my family, and myself. I haven’t had much energy this year to pour into social media, so I am especially thankful for my clients both new and repeat, who continue to seek out my design and preservation services despite my serious lack of self promotion. I will pick up the pace a bit in 2025, but with a renewed perspective on being truly present for my family and for my clients. I’ve found that the beauty that lies in the process of design simply can’t be rushed. Sometimes you have to slow down to make progress. Here’s to a Happy New Year!
