Willow Creek Update…Spent yesterday at the Pennsylvania Gourd Festival. My head is full of ideas. Now finally back in the studio…a little basketry, some terra cotta pots, epoxy molds, and a whole lot of going on. My studio table is overflowing with ideas, and I can’t wait to see where it all goes from here…

A garden should have at least one thing that makes people smile.

Here are six gourds that evolved into small architectural sculptures.

Each began growing on a vine and ended its journey as a one-of-a-kind birdhouse designed to weather outdoors and add a little character to the garden.

There are only six . Six custom carved birdhouses are available on Tuesday’s Pop-Up Online Sale. Right here…

They’re unique, custom , one of a kind..which is both their charm and my ongoing challenge.🤣

I love finding ways to make art functional, and these birdhouses are my gift to your garden. They bring a bit of whimsy and craftsmanship to the garden while offering a sophisticated (yes sophisticated!) home for your feathered friends.

Sculpted Epoxy Birdhouse Tutorial PART 1

So here’s where the magic starts.

At this stage they honestly look more like vintage garden relics than birdhouses… which is exactly what I love about them. The sculpted flowers , birds,woodland creatures….are all built by hand with epoxy over a simple gourd base.

The best part?
They become fully functional birdhouses.

Somewhere between vintage art, woodland cottage, and “found this in an old English garden under a climbing vine.”

In this tutorial I’m sharing how I sculpt these raised details, build texture, and slowly convince a gourd it was destined for a more glamorous life

Some say plant under the full moon, some say plant under a young moon, I say plant when you get a chance….sometime after Mother’s Day .. at dusk when the heat calms itself and the tree frogs come alive. Because gourds are really very nocturnal by nature. You’ll hear more about that.
And of course my new friend who now follows me around the backyard. I think she’s interested in this new human who now lives in her quiet space.
Do you believe in spirit animals? Maybe I finally found mine.
