The 1992 children's book "The Rainbow Fish" is a short but sweet story of a beautiful fish with shining scales. Even though the other fish asked him to share his beautiful scales, he didn't want to. But a wise old octopus advised him to trade in his vanity for friendship and love. I am not an attention-seeker and am very private. But let me be vulnerable and share that losing my hair during chemo was awful. Is awful. I cried everytime I put on that wig. The minute I had a shadow of hair, that Mother Effer was gone forever. It still throws me off when I look in the mirror. But there is something about being stripped bare of your physical appearance that makes you grapple to fill that space with more enduring things. Instagram is filled with vanity and it is okay to feel good about yourself! But it can all be taken away with little notice and there is nothing wrong with aging gracefully. I thank God for the wise octopuses in my life and the friends who filled space for me and distracted me with goodness and laughs when I needed it most. Spread your glitter! Pattern by

I never had the time or patience to sew clothes for my two kids. But my Grandma era is a whole other ballgame! I love it so much. It is all I want to do after work (besides Busy Books). Took a few lessons to improve my skills and learn about buttonholes and such. I also discovered there is a presser foot for every challenge (I'm looking at you, ruffler!) This Saturday, I am attending Zipper 101. And Phoebe is coming to visit! I can't wait to give her a few little creations made with love. This pattern from is so cute! The corresponding YouTube tutorial really helped.

Tap tap….is this thing working? Is anyone out there? Why hello there! While selling Pillow Candy has been in the rearview mirror for a few years now, I am still here and still creating. The past few years have gone by so fast. My daughter and PC partner graduated from UGA in 2023 and is married with a baby! They live in Pooler, GA and are working hard and enjoying our beloved baby Phoebe—she will turn one this June. And before you ask, our “grandparent names” are Grandma and Grandpa. Very cutting edge. I am still working at Trane and, at age 58, STILL enjoy my job and grateful for it. I am especially grateful for the robust benefits that FT employment has provided as I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in the fall of 2024. I did chemo, surgery, and radiation. Had my last surgery six weeks ago and am so happy to have that hellscape behind me. You know the scene in Stranger Things where Max is running away from Vecna to the Kate Bush song Running Up That Hill? THAT is what full blown cancer feels like. But I am still standing albeit with some crazy ass hair. It’s interesting, the urge to work with felt again hit me hard at the beginning of this year. I immersed myself in the world of busy/quiet books and decided to make a Busy Book for Phoebe. I started just like I did with PC…ironing freezer paper on felt and cutting out patterns. I upgraded to a Cricut and learning how to use that. Alas, I fell in love with felt and fabric all over again. It must be the prayers people have said for me that brought me to such a happy, creative, and peaceful place after so much chaos and fear. I feel free and inspired working with my hands again just for fun and not for profit. I have traded in every reality show and a lot of scrolling for my sewing machine and found a happy spot…for now anyways! I hope to share more here under my new handle . Hope you are all well ❤️❤️❤️
