As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, I have one wish.
I wish we could remember that we're all Americans first.
We may never agree on everything. We may always believe the other side is wrong on certain issues. That's okay. Healthy disagreement has always been part of this country's story.
But maybe we can stop attacking each other. Stop posting hateful memes. Stop using insults and trying to "win" every argument on social media.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm as guilty as anyone else. I've gotten caught up in it too. But I want to change, and I'm going to try to do better.
If you want to discuss politics, sit down over a cup of coffee. Listen as much as you talk. You might still disagree when you leave—and that's perfectly fine.
What if we spent more time building each other up than tearing each other down?
America has faced disagreements from the very beginning, but we've always been strongest when we remembered that we're neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family before we're members of a political party.
This 250th anniversary, let's choose a little more respect, a little more kindness, and a little more grace.
We don't have to think alike to love the same country.
I'll do my best to be part of the solution instead of the problem. I hope you'll join me.
Happy 250th, America. 🇺🇸
