Exciting News!!! I have been working on this fire flower series for over a year and have finally found the perfect venue to show them, right here in the Houston Heights! Even better, I have found a mentor and friend in the amazing a fixture in the Houston art community for over 20 years. I can’t wait to see what that partnership has in store!

It feels like the beginning of a new season and I am here for it! I was invited to show my Fire Flower series at John Ross Palmer Gallery in the Heights! Out of the ashes a phoenix is born.

This series of porcelain Magnolia Wallflowers, ‘Collaborations with Nature,’ was inspired by the tree outside my bedroom window.
Witnessing it progress through the seasons, I was compelled to capture the phases required to produce this iconic flower.
The challenge was to seamlessly merge dried specimens and natural components with my porcelains reflections.
I was invited to slow down and study the world around me, appreciating each detail of this astonishing two story tree that greets me when I rise each morning and retire at night.
Studying nature with the intention of replicating its complexity and perfect imperfection filled me with reverence for the care and details inherent in creation.

I’ve really been enjoying learning the art of traditional chinoiserie painting with gouache from Diane Hill and can’t wait to see where this skill will take me!

Flower Broken Open, Raku Fired Porcelain and Magnolia Pods, 2026

The FireFlower Series of Wallflowers explores the fragility and resilience of porcelain. By subjecting notoriously delicate materials to the unpredictable and extreme process of Raku firing, sculptural flowers are reborn as eternal relics. The inherent risk of failure adds to the preciousness of the artifacts that endure, emerging from intense heat. There is poetry in the language of flowers—symbols of fleeting beauty—transformed into timeless treasures when strengthened by fire. The work reflects the strength and vulnerability within the human spirit, reflecting our propensity to overcome and flourish amidst intense trials.

Rangel’s intention is to share her passion for discovery found in nature and within the creative process. She believes art is an integral part of everyday life and meant to be experienced on an intimate level.
