✨ The Story Behind Crafty Girl ✨

People often ask how Crafty Girl got started, and honestly, it all began with a simple painting class I took just for fun. My goal at the time was to learn how to refinish old furniture and give it a fresh new look.

Before long, I found myself with a booth at Vintage Living, painting farmhouse furniture and loving every minute of it. Then one day, a friend of mine who owned a large collection of those famous black-and-white checkered pieces said, “You should really try painting a few things like these.” She showed me her collection, and I was instantly inspired.

So, I taught myself how to paint the checkered pattern. To my surprise, my customers weren’t as interested in my farmhouse furniture anymore—they wanted checks! What started as a fun challenge quickly became the style many of you now recognize as Crafty Girl.

Then another blessing came along. One day, my friend Angela asked if I would teach her how to paint. What started as sharing a hobby grew into a wonderful partnership. Angela has brought so much creativity, talent, and inspiration to Crafty Girl. Through painting together, sharing ideas, and discussing pieces, she has helped elevate our work and inspired me to continue growing as an artist.

Over the years, Crafty Girl has grown and moved from Vintage Living, to 6th Street, and now to our home inside McRae’s. Each move has been part of an amazing journey, and we’ve been blessed to meet so many wonderful people along the way.

To get back to our roots, we’ve recently decided to add a few furniture pieces back into our booth. We hope you’ll enjoy seeing a little bit of where Crafty Girl began while still finding the hand-painted pieces you have come to love.

Most importantly, we would not be here without our customers—both old and new. Thank you for supporting us, encouraging us, and stopping by to visit while we’re stocking shelves. Some of our favorite moments are getting to know you and hearing your stories.
