Those of you who follow me on Instagram know that I have made the decision to leave floral design-- and my business, Meadow Floral Studio-- to pursue my most persistent dream of authoring a fine art wedding blog. Chapel Journal is the product of nearly a decade of wedding experience—and of dreaming. My career as a fine art floral designer and wedding coordinator gave me such rich insight into all facets of wedding planning. Yet writing is my passion, my soul’s innate language, and I have longed to return to it. It was wedding blogs that first sparked my love of weddings, and for so long, I have dreamed of authoring my own. A blog that fluently combines my love of fashion and design with my rich wedding background and, above all, my faith, my reason for being. For I cannot view weddings as separate from marriages, from the beautiful covenant we make before God. While I admire so many wedding blogs for their fine art aesthetic, I have always felt that faith was missing from the equation—a treatment of marriages and weddings that is as holy and reverential as they deserve. My prayer is that Chapel Journal is a beguiling synthesis of visual beauty and the far surpassing beauty of grace, of faith.

On Chapel’s pages, you can expect to find lighthearted, fashion-forward posts as well as intensely practical wedding planning advice. I hope to inform and equip my readers with the information and the structure they need to plan a complex event—and the artistry and beauty inherent in planning such a beautiful event. I hope you can take refuge in the sheer visual beauty of Chapel’s pages. And yet I pray you see a glimmer of something more beautiful still—an encounter with God's grace.

Chapel Journal is an ode to faith-filled, fine art weddings. The journal is devoted to the creation of exquisite weddings—weddings that aspire to the highest levels of artistry and expression. Yet I believe in the kind of beauty that transcends mere aesthetic excellence. I believe in cultivating above all the unseen, spiritual graces of the heart, so that a wedding day is suffused with light eternal. Chapel offers no shortage of practical planning advice and fashion-forward ideas, but I hope it offers something more—an approach that honors God and offers tranquility of soul.

Follow the link to see Chapel Journal in all its graceful beauty, designed by Emily Wells Studio. And be sure to subscribe to Chapel's newsletters and follow us on Instagram and thechapeljournal for exciting updates! I'll also be sharing Chapel Journal's page for you to like directly. I am so grateful for those of you who entrusted me with your floral designs-- or simply expressed your support here-- and I will never forget your kindness and the grace and beauty I experienced throughout my time at Meadow Floral. I would be honored and so grateful if you would continue to follow me during this next chapter and support Chapel Journal, the creation that dwells closest to my heart.

With gratitude,

Boho beauty. 🌾🌸 It was an honor to create florals to express Rebecca’s vision of bohemian romance. Rebecca has a soft-spoken beauty and demeanor that reminds me, in a way, of flowers. It was a joy to source & create florals that were reflective of her quiet, gentle presence and genuine kindness, which flows effortlessly from her beautiful heart.

The wedding a had a certain heirloom-ready quality that was particularly touching. Rebecca wore her mother’s dress, beautifully re-imagined for her. And her decision to use predominately dried flowers captured this everlasting quality. When I think of dried flora, I think of opening a book & finding antique flowers pressed between the pages— and instantly being overcome with the memory of picking them. I love that dried bouquets become this kind of incredible keepsake, and like to imagine the bride’s daughter or granddaughter admiring it years later. She deftly wove her family history into her wedding design, delicately carrying beloved traditions into a new legacy of love.

The most evocative design was a wildflower meadow that we filled with unique botanicals & bohemian aspects. Walking through a meadow at dusk is, for me, the very essence of love & beauty. I try to capture this organic, easeful feeling in my designs, and forever am chasing this feeling of peaceful intimacy. Of beauty that glorifies & reflects the heart of the Creator and refreshes the soul. For Rebecca’s wedding, we chose only the most ethereal, expressive dried botanicals, including angelic white & blush pampas plumes, so feathery & free. The pink & apricot dried florals & plumes added an element of whimsy & playfulness to the meadow that I particularly loved.

Beyond the design work, I am so grateful for the honor of being entrusted with these moments. Rebecca & her family have graced Meadow’s story many times and each has been so enriching. I’m always left grateful & awed over how God can create connection over anything— even flowers— and write a story that transcends my creative abilities & powers of articulation.

Rebecca, I’m wishing you & Andrew blessings on your path; may that path include many wildflower meadows to walk through. 🌾🤍

A floral-infused table under the Hunter’s Moon. ✨ This table, this reception, was filled with such artistry & intricacy. I love how layered and complex the design was, but also how intelligent it was. M&L gave me license to work with flowers at every stage of beauty, from full flower to died & dried, creating a touching meditation on nature & the changing seasons. It was southern gothic at its most devastatingly romantic.

On the one hand, we wanted this table install to feel sexy & haphazard, like it just “happened.” And on the other hand, we wanted it to look so artistic & lavish, it could pass for a floral installation in a museum. The table housed all kinds of plant curiosities: a Spanish moss “runner,” a collection of air plants, & a smattering of dried pods & things that looked as if they had been foraged from a canyon trail. There were lush, garden-style arrangements of rare orchids & lavish roses. Along with these were too many flower varieties to name, all in chocolate, black, and jewel tones. Paired with these more maximalist pieces were Ikebana arrangements, compositions that utilize negative space & create a sense of restraint. Tapers in various stages of melt gave the table romance, and the collection of skulls & antlers-- some adorned with flowers & others placed under cloches—would make any Dutch Masters artist envious.

Florals found a home in every area of the reception space: dead clematis seedheads were draped over mantles, Spanish moss veiled an antique Singer table, & dried flowers styled the lounge. Dried Achiote, Talami pods, giant seed pod tops, Lion’s Ear, sponge mushrooms, Sora pods, Natraj, Lotus pods, and other “dead” plant material added a collected, foraged feeling to tables & arrangements. I love mingling fresh flora with these interesting seedheads, creating a conversation between nature at is so-called peak of beauty & its fading.

Millicent’s personalized touches made the imperial table come together as a composition. From the horseshoes placed at each table setting to the layered linens, the table was so bespoke. There could have been no lovelier place to dine & gather beneath the light of the Hunter’s Moon. 🌕

M & L’s ceremony. 🤍 For this Wild West-inspired installation, we wanted the flowers to seem both artistic and abandoned— to feel as that they could have taken over the structure and grown there naturally (over decades, centuries even). I loved these simultaneous moods that ran throughout the wedding design; on the one hand, the flowers were created to feel maximalist and beautifully over-the-top; on the other hand, there was a ghost town feeling, a deserted quality that was so appealing. It was a dream to adorn this cathedral structure with artistic florals: some of them dried, some of them fresh, and all of them effortless. The use of negative space gave us the restraint we were after, and dried florals were absolutely key in creating an editorial, fashion-forward look.

My favorite touch was the meadow installation, a nest of flowers “growing” at the base of the arch. The lighter side of this installation was composed of angelic, white dried flora—dyed pampas that looked like angel’s wings, shimmering seedpods, and delicate white everlasting flowers. I loved this “feather moon” vibe! These soft, ethereal flowers gradually gave way to black, russet, chocolate, and smoky hued ingredients, which felt sexy, dangerous, mysterious, and passionate. Given the vast canyon landscape and the stark beauty of some of the florals, there was so much breathing room for the emotions of the day to take precedence.

I love that we had to take a tiny “hike” to arrive at this meadow site, something that increased the secluded, stolen away feeling. It was the perfect place for a desert wedding and union of two wild, western-bent souls.

Millicent’s black, white, and jeweled bouquet. 🖤 I love designing flowers that feel like fashion, that have a kind of couture quality. It was incredible to create a bouquet as the ultimate accessory for a custom bridal suit (designed by the groom!) with sequined fringe and silver conchos. In the end, there were so many little serendipities— the way the hanging amaranthus evoked the fringe on her jacket, and how the pearlescent lunaria pods shimmered like her silver detailing. This was the Wild West at its very most fashion-forward. 💎

“The Harvest and the Hunter’s moons are those full moons occurring on either side of the autumnal Equinox. A time of great beauty in the natural world, the change of summer to fall is a rich palette for wedding inspiration.” -Anna Sheffield

A starkly beautiful moonlit canyon wedding, designed for Millicent & Lucas. 🌕The poignancy of flowers, for me, has everything to do with their ephemerality— flowers are so unspeakably beautiful while they are here, and yet to so quick to deteriorate & die. Without this tension, this urgency, we lose the entire message & “point” of flowers entirely. Lucas & Millicent encouraged me to embrace the full expression of flowers, from the exquisite perfection of full blooms to the faded beauty of dried or “dead” flowers. It was a release to be able to design with this kind of abandon— to have permission to go eclectic, unexpected. The result was a wedding that felt passionate, maximalist, and at the same time vast— almost deserted. Lavish floral installations felt all the more poignant when juxtaposed with the stark landscape. It was beauty with an adventurous streak; only the sexiest flowers would do. 🥀

I scavenged the country for half a year, taking design notes from everywhere from South Carolina & Savannah— admiring the moody beauty of Spanish moss veiling oak trees— to the Pacific Northwest, where I fell in love with Oregon meadows and glimmering agate. But of course the flower & décor specifics are less interesting than the overall artistic vision, the mood created, and the bride and groom’s ability to own their stylistic choices. There was so much to fall in love with— the bridal pantsuit with its conchos & dangling crystals (designed & created by the groom!), the skulls and antlers, and the reception tables laden with flora & curiosities: horseshoes, air plants, M’s personally dyed cheesecloth, and jewel-toned tapers in various stages of melt. And beyond everything, the beauty of God’s creation: earth & sky luminous with the full moon. It was all pretty next level.

These previews by are so astonishingly beautiful, and I can’t wait to view more. Thank you, M & L, for bringing me into your creative vision.

Something I wish I created more often— wild bouquets full of indecipherable, intangible bits. 🍇🌿I confess that I love intricate textures as much as I love full blooms; a delicate lacecap hydrangea, paired against the pearly center of a scabiosa, is as strikingly beautiful (to me) as any focal flower. The intangibles and seasonal blackberries in this bouquet reminded me that I want to make growing my own flowers an ever more important priority, allowing me access to truly natural flowers and a wilder, less definable aesthetic. 🌿 Who else loves more textural, less flower-forward bouquets? 🤍
