Our team recently spent time with Maharam exploring textiles, textures, durability, and performance through a hands-on rep visit and material review. These conversations help us better understand how products will function in real spaces and how they can support the overall experience we’re designing for.

With growing demand for lower-carbon building solutions, calcined clay is becoming an important material in the future of concrete and cement design. This supplementary cementitious material (SCM) can reduce the CO2 footprint of traditional cement by nearly 50% while still maintaining strong performance.

As conversations around sustainability continue shaping the industry, materials like calcined clay are becoming an important part of how we think about long-term building performance, resilience, and environmental impact.

Where do you find inspiration as a designer? 💡

For us, it often comes from observing how people move through and interact with the world around them. The way a body moves through space, the way light shifts throughout the day, or the way a single gesture can completely change how something feels.

In architecture and design, we may all work with the same basic elements, walls, structure, light, material, but the possibilities for how those pieces come together are endless.

Some projects stay with you long after they’re finished.

Mat-Su Central School was never just about designing a building. It was about listening closely to a community that believed learning could look different and creating a space that reflected that vision with honesty, flexibility, and care.

This documentary captures the years of persistence, collaboration, and belief that brought the project to life. From the earliest conversations to the moment students walked through the doors, this school became something bigger than any one team, meeting, or drawing set. It became a reflection of the people it was built for.

We opened our doors for a little Spring Fling at Explore Design 🌸
