I know people have been wondering why I've been so quiet for months. The simple answer is, I didn't know what to say. But as of yesterday, I do. Yesterday, my husband Chuck made the decision to stop all life-prolonging measures. He has no quality of life any more. This year has been 4 hospital stays and several weeks of inpatient rehab. He's on constant oxygen as his lungs are failing. He can barely walk. This is, simply put, not the life he wants. Michael and I support him in this decision, although we will miss him terribly. Below is a picture of a gift the hospice social worker gave me today. It's a lovely bottle with a printout of Chuck's heartbeat. ❤️

Good morning everyone, and "hi there" from Indiana on this Monday morning. Normally I'd be frantically getting everything organized for Tatting Corner Tat Days, originally scheduled for this week, but life has interfered with me a bit too much this year and so I decided to move the dates to October 16 through 18 for this year.

The theme is still the same, and the same fine teachers will be here to teach - just the dates have changed. Hope you can join us!

Good afternoon everyone, and happy Fri-YAY! If you've seen my personal feed, you'll know my husband was in the hospital for the past week with sepsis, bacteremia, and MRSA. Happily, I brought him home last evening.

So to celebrate, I've updated the website with a load of new products (some that I'd gotten behind on, to tell you the truth)...AND, the new LizMetallic Cones are available as well! They come in 3 sizes (3 colors in size 10, 10 colors in size 20 and 40) and you can order them right now. I can tell you that they are very yummy threads, and colorfast, too.

Also keep in mind that there's an upcoming Lizbeth cotton price increase on May 15, so now is the right time to stock up!

You can find all the new goodies here:

(Edit: Link in comments works.) I just realized it's been a month since I posted an update. Things are going better, but I feel like every day brings us new challenges. On Chuck's side of things, he was discharged from the inpatient rehab facility near the end of February, and he went back to work on Sunday night, March 2. So far so good, right? I think he feels better than he has in a long time. But when we visited his primary care provider to get the return to work paperwork completed, the P*P informed him that c.diff is not something you get rid of permanently - once you've had it, you're susceptible to flares. The P*P mentioned that if Chuck ever needed to be on antibiotics for anything, that we would have to have an additional antibiotic designed to keep the primary antibiotic from causing a c.diff flare. Chuck was pretty disappointed with this news, to be sure.

Bills are starting to come in from the hospital stays and although we did hit our out of pocket maximum, we haven't paid it out of pocket yet. And Chuck went back to work in the middle of a pay period, so his paycheck this Friday will only be for one week, not enough to handle our regular expenses.

Chuck's brother is home from rehab and is doing...ok. There is definitely something wrong with his mobility. We see the neurologist next Monday to see if he might have Parkinson's.

Michael continues his training to be a table dealer at our local casino and probably will go to full time soon. They have warned him that he will likely get graveyard shifts so I can see the need to get his full driver's license and find him an affordable car, because I have no wish to be hauling him to work at nine or eleven at night.

Once we're confident that Chuck is going to stay pretty stable we're going to restart the transplant process that was put on hold with him being in the hospital most of January and February. With Michael taking a job that's pretty restrictive on time off, though, we may be down to one potential living donor in Chuck's brother. If that doesn't pan out, I may go ahead and donate a kidney to someone so that Chuck can get to the top of the list for one.

We do appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to keep us in your thoughts and read these updates. All of you that have been able to donate have kept us afloat through these first few months, and we're forever grateful. If you can donate again, that would be fantastic. If you can't, sharing our fundraiser out would be much appreciated.

It's been an eventful few days. On Thursday, January 31, Chuck was finally transferred to inpatient rehab. Less than 24 hours later, he was transferred to St. Vincent hospital in Anderson as he was completely unable to breathe and his oxygen saturation levels were dropping into the 70's. We spent most of Friday evening and into Saturday morning in the ER with him. They placed him on a Bipap machine (this machine assists a person with breathing and provides supplemental oxygen the same time - one step lower than a ventilator as the patient doesn't have to be intubated) and let us know that he would be transferred to St. Vincent on 86th St. in Indianapolis around 4 a.m. (spoiler he wasn't transported until 7 a.m.) as he needed to be in the ICU but there were no beds in either of the Anderson hospital ICU's. At that time it was 2 a.m. and Michael and I left for home to get a bit of sleep.

Yesterday we went to the rehab facility and picked him up a few things and then stopped for supper on our way to the hospital. The doctor called me and we had a long discussion about what was going on and what their plans were. The immediate need is to get him off the Bipap machine but at that time he still had too much fluid in his body to allow him to breathe with just supplemental oxygen. So they were planning to run dialysis yesterday afternoon and see if that improved things.

We got there last evening and he had had dialysis but was still on the Bipap. They had tried to take him off earlier but he wasn't able to breathe comfortably. We spent a little time with him and then headed home.

As I write this, we're getting ready to go to Indianapolis again. I spoke with the nurse this morning and he was still on the Bipap. The doctors are reportedly meeting again today to look at a course of action.

At the same time, his short term disability company is dragging their feet at approving his claim that was opened on January 11, so no money is flowing in from his job at this point. I have provided all of the information that has been required so I'm not certain what's holding the process up. This claims examiner has been very slow to approve our claims and it's very frustrating. She also tries to call his phone even though I've told her repeatedly that he can't talk with her while on the Bipap equipment and provided my cell number over and over again.

At any rate, that's the update for today. We appreciate each and every one of you for the support and caring you have shown us. I think we know that this episode is going to last a lot longer than we initially thought it would. If you can continue to donate, we very much appreciate it. If you can't, sharing our GoFundMe will help immensely too.

Good afternoon! Chuck is still in the hospital waiting for our insurance to approve his transfer to the inpatient rehab unit. We've been waiting for approval since last Friday and the social worker told me that she had a patient recently that waited 8 DAYS for approval - days which the patient's insurance still had to pay for inpatient care at the hospital.

Overall, Chuck is doing better, but he is really weak and although they're doing physical and occupational therapy with him in the hospital, it's not at the level where he can start regaining strength to return to work.

We've had wonderful fiascos over the past week (said in my most sarcastic voice ever):

On Sunday, Michael went over to check on Chuck's brother's house and found that a pipe had burst during our horrible cold weather last week. Well, we think it's been leaking for some time, because when we called our plumber friend to come out, and they got the crawlspace open under the attached shop to the house, the water was nearly 28 inches deep. We pumped the water out and then our plumber came back on Monday to fix the pipe, but as the houses are on one well, Michael and I were without water all evening Sunday and all morning on Monday. You can see the damaged pipe in the attached picture.

On Monday, Michael and I attended Chuck's brother's goal setting session at the inpatient rehab setting he's currently in. Imagine our surprise when they told us that February 4 would likely be the last day he could stay, as his Medicare Advantage plan would likely deny care beyond that time. He is NOT ready to come home and live independently again. So now I'm trying to figure out what to do in case that happens.

We finally got the proper paperwork for Chuck's sick leave, and I uploaded it to the short term disability website on Tuesday (plus emailed it to the claims administrator). Then I got a text from them saying they could take up to 4 business days to review the three page document signed by his doctor. Meanwhile, there is no short term disability pay coming in and we have a couple thousand dollars' worth of bills coming due in the next week. I just had to renew our license plates which set me back over $350.

Anyway, I wanted to thank everyone for their outpouring of support. I hope we're on the road to recovery, but I've learned not to count on things like that lately. We appreciate each and every one of you! If you can donate again, great, if you can't, please share our story out and keep us in your thoughts.

Good afternoon everyone! I know I've been really quiet lately but if you follow my personal page you'll know that my husband has been in and out of the hospital since October. Our emergency funds have dwindled in the face of all of this. I'm putting our fundraiser out here in hopes that it can be shared to help us stay on our feet during this time. He's currently in the hospital, but should be moved to an inpatient rehab program at a local nursing home this weekend. If you can give, we'd appreciate it; if you can't, please do share the fundraiser for us.
