LAYERS!!!
Whether it’s painting on canvas, fish replicas or creating a habitat, the key is many layers.
I’ve shown some fish painting techniques in previous posts. This post is just to show the beginning of a pedestal habitat display that I’ll be using for one my personal game head mounts.
So far I’ve added a fence post, small antler shed and spent cartridge used to harvest the animal. I still plan to add some vegetation. As a personal project I just fit it in between other projects, so it may take some time.
More photos to come as the project progresses.

Well, after a flooded family room and bedroom this summer turned my shop into a storage area, it’s nice to finally have repair/renovations completed and now beginning to have room to comfortably work on projects again.

FYI, I don’t use pre painted fish eyes.
While similar, every fish is unique in coloration.
That’s why I hand paint the eyes to match the specific fish in your photos.
Just one more detail that gives you a unique trophy that matches YOUR fish. Not just a cookie cutter of that species.
Eyes
Scale detail and coloration
Fin shape and splits if requested
All of these help make your replica a unique memory.

Another aspect of displaying your trophy is the base/backround you choose.
The possibilities are endless. In this reel you’ll see backings from wood panels, log slabs, driftwood, rocks and lily pads.
For pedestal mounts there are a variety of bases with or without habitat. These can also be customized to include items that you provide. Things like rocks, shells, lures, antlers, artificial plants, etc..
The only limit is your imagination!
