We were so happy to be involved during the design phase of their new home and when it came time to move in, our team assembled to bring those architectural plans to life!

When one of our amazing clients wanted to welcome her friend to her new home, she set the bar *sky-high* for housewarming gifts by gifting her a professional organizing session with the Systems by Susie team.

You pick up. You put away. You close the cabinet. And somehow it never actually feels done.

That’s not because you’re behind. It’s usually because things have quietly multiplied without you noticing.

Here’s what we find too many of in almost every home we organize:
1. Vases - from every bouquet you’ve ever received, “just in case”
2. Tech cords - for devices you don’t even own anymore
3. Stuffed animals - the kids stopped playing with these years ago, we won’t tell them
4. Water bottles - somehow you own 15 and can never find one when you need it
5. Pens - half of them don’t even write anymore
6. Coffee mugs - the cabinet is full but you still reach for the same 3
7. Cleaning supplies - duplicates of duplicates, some from a decade ago
8. Food storage containers - especially the ones with no matching lid in sight
9. Beauty products - half used, expired, or “I’ll use this eventually”
10. Books - read once, loved once, still taking up shelf space

One tip from my team: turn off auto-replenishment on Amazon. It’s a sneaky little culprit behind numbers 7 and 9 especially. You think you’re running low, but you’re actually not, and now you have 3 backups of everything.

The picking-up-but-never-catching-up feeling isn’t a you problem. It’s usually a systems problem, and that part is actually fixable.

This recent concierge move included a butler’s pantry and a full pantry, both wrapped in the deepest, moodiest berry cabinets… a gorgeous collaboration between Mueller Homes, Inc. and Ella Lee Interiors

Our job was to make sure everything inside felt just as intentional as the design around it. 💫

We sorted, categorized, and built zones for everyday staples, entertaining pieces, and the small appliances that always seem to multiply. Then our team labeled, contained, and placed it all so this family could open the door and know exactly where things live… no digging, no guessing.

We know this is the first week back for a lot of your kids, and it’s a lot right now, not just logistically but emotionally too. New routines, maybe new schools, new classes and teachers to get used to. There’s a lot of newness to hold, for you and for them. 🤍

The secret to calm mornings is that everything already has a home before the chaos starts, and that the planning happens the night before, not at 7am. Backpacks by the door. Clothes laid out. Lunches ready to grab. And when your kids know where their stuff lives and take ownership of it, mornings stop depending on you remembering everything for everyone. ✨

My two oldest are off at college now, packing their own bags for a totally different kind of first week. But I still remember the tiny backpacks, the tiny shoes, and the mornings that felt impossible when everything else already felt like so much. If you’re in that season right now, we see you.

👉🏻Swipe through for some of my favorite tips that apply to kids of all ages. I hope this will help your family start this school year on the right foot! ✨

It’s been a long summer. How did last year go? Sit down as a family and talk about it together. I like the idea of a family meeting to discuss these questions before jumping right into solution mode. It’s a great opportunity to get your kids’ input and have them help come up with ideas that will stick for your family. 💫

The best way I’ve found to achieve this is through checklists. ✅

Checklists are a great way to give your kids ownership for completing their routine and if needed, it’s an easy thing to incentivize for completion. We used to let whoever completed their morning checklist pick a song to play on the way to school. 🎶

The best part about this is that it shifts the responsibility from YOU having to remember and remind to THEM taking responsibility for it.

Start small and with the top priorities. I like giving a number of tasks aligned to their age, so a 3 year old could get 3 things on their list.

Make sure your schedule is posted somewhere visible for your kids to see and includes things like PE day, library day, birthday parties, sports, hobbies, etc.

Both high and low tech work well- Google Calendar, Skylight, dry erase, chalkboard, etc.

The same principal that applies to the rest of your home is super important with kids’ routines. Giving everything a home is the key to making sure it ends up where you want it to.

Troubleshoot what is piling up, being forgotten, or you have to constantly remind your kids about. A small tweak could make all the difference.

Do you have a kid who takes a long time getting dressed? Play a song and challenge them to be dressed before the song ends. Setting a deadline using a timer or song is great for kids who are competitive.

Some of our clients have an extra toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush or socks downstairs to make morning routines easier.

Analyze where the friction is and see if there are small changes you can make to make your life easier.

Wrapping up our Summer Sanity Saver series with the one that pays off for years: teaching kids real-life skills. 🧺

In our house, this didn’t happen overnight. It’s been 10 years of picking just a couple of skills each summer and layering them on. Emptying the dishwasher led to doing laundry. Cleaning the bathroom led to dusting. And eventually? Ordering pizza, scheduling their own doctor’s appointments, ironing, sewing on a button.

Small, steady additions. That’s the whole system.

School’s almost back, but there’s still time to squeeze in one more skill before the routine shifts. It doesn’t have to be big.
