Seeing a lot of posts on doing a shower in a day or something to that effect. Just tore one out in New Cumberland looks like it was done in a day, vinyl on the walls water leaked through the shower floor curb into the living room below. Having fiberglass shower pans doesn't guarantee it's waterproof. A tiled shower with a mud base waterproofed correctly will hold up 30 years. I guess you get what you pay for instant gratification and paying later in many ways.

Another shower project working with my customer. Original 3X3' shower with false cavity turned into 3X5' with knee wall for shaving niche. If you want expertise and creativity and a warranty with the JD Tile label on you found the best in the area. Listening and planning makes for success.

Little history of JD Tile, started as a hobby while in the AF doing a bathroom at home. In 1999 starting as a contractor experience only as a hobby. Working for his Godfather right off the bat in Mechanicsburg. His mansion had 10 bathrooms all with tile sitting in the rooms ready to be done.

Jon looked at this pile of tile and knew one day he would take it on. This last bathroom in the home to do and after honing his skills he was ready. This is what he saw that day, and this is what he did with that tile. Published in a magazine in 2007. After tiling on his own learning out of a book, 8 years later he had his work in publication.

Never thought I would make a post just concentrating on the waterproofing as the end result of the tile shower is the bling. I always speak of the waterproofing or what's under the tile you don't see as a customer that is so critical but overlooked. Here ya go.

Shower for a friend locally they only have one bath. This was in the hot of Summer they were going to have a makeshift shower outside in the yard but obviously with no hot water which kinda didn't sit too well with me.

I prepped the walls and waterproofed the shower 100% put up the pluming fixtures, tension rod with curtain. They used it at night I worked on it in the morning thinset dries in plenty of time. Win-
win

With the shortage of materials like everything you can't attain all one brand or color. My shower is different colors of waterproofing because I give the warranty this is JD Tile brand and I haven't had a leak in 25 years in a shower. This is what people need to pay attention to and where the lack of education is with cusotmers and many tile installers they just don't have the education. I keep ripping showers out with lack of waterproofing beneath the tile.

Most people know the term Schluter, but you can't get all their product so and if you don't like wallpapering with their fabric what do you do. You do this you use different products together and you give the warranty your label on the work and you do it right from day 1.

Time do a recap on JD Tile, he streamlined to doing just custom tile showers with such a lack of education in the process. For a customer who only had one shower in their home this last Summer he actually did only the waterproofing and they used it at night and he worked on it during the day. Waterproofing is critical but often overlooked, people only get interested when the tile is going in but overlook the waterproofing till water comes down through the ceiling below. At that point JD comes in and does it right.

As mentioned Jon has streamlined into just showers, where the real need for expertise and creativity comes into play. Custom shower by JD TILE, second time around. The first shower ripped out due to a lack of waterproofing. Customer questioned installer and he said it would be okay. Customer halted installation, calling in Jon of JD Tile to assess. The shower she expected was lacking a lot of stuff including refinement. Listening to the customer and using his 25 years on doing tile, many improvements were made. The hurdle for a curb was reduced, the drain centered, quartz used on niche and curb to name a few. Bottom line the shower is 100% waterproofed before any tile was installed. JD Tile does not offer installations to be done 2 to 3 days like these other companies putting in beautiful fiberglass showers, or cheap plastic.
