We purchased this property in the early 2000s after deciding that we no longer wanted to live in town. From the beginning, we knew there was something special about this place.
The property had never been lived in as a traditional home until we acquired it. It was originally a gentlemen’s Rod & Gun Club—a gathering place for members who came from throughout Oklahoma and across the United States, particularly from the East Coast, to fish, hunt, and enjoy time on the water. Members had their own boats and hunting accommodations, and there are countless stories and pieces of history tied to this remarkable property. At the time, membership in one Rod & Gun Club often extended to affiliated clubs throughout the country.
When we purchased it, the clubhouse and acreage it was little more than a shell. We were actually told that we should bulldoze it and start over. Instead, we brought in an engineer who determined that the structure was more than 100 years old and remarkably solid—it simply wasn’t going anywhere.
So, rather than tear it down, we gutted it and began rebuilding it from the ground up.
David and I poured our hearts into creating the property together. Over the years, we transformed it into the home and ranch it is today, incorporating more than 10,000 square feet of flagstone, a custom barn, paddocks, a custom pool, and a true ranch-style atmosphere across 168 beautiful acres.
For nearly 24 years, this property has been so much more than a piece of land. We raised our children and grandchildren here. There have been countless family gatherings, horses, memories, laughter, hard work, and some of the best years of our lives within these gates.
It is incredibly difficult to see it go, but at the same time, it is a tremendous compliment to know that something we poured so much of ourselves into has become such a beautiful and special property.
I sincerely hope that whoever becomes its next steward appreciates the history, character, and beauty of this place as much as we have. I would hate to see its history and character lost to development, but ultimately, that is beyond our control.
For us, this will always be home—and a very meaningful part of our family’s history. ❤️
