"Remembering Mom"

I just finished this yesterday and it is ready for the State Fair!!

The dusty rose solid fabric is from a dress mom wore to the last couple of family weddings and the sparkly trim was on the front of that dress. The pink paisley print with the gold threads is from another dress she had made and wore when I was a kid. The blue with flowers is actually a scarf that I fused to muslin for stability. There are two handkerchiefs, a pink scarf that I fashioned into a flower, two gloves she used to wear, a couple of pins, a bracelet I gave her when I was in high school and buttons from her button collection.

Mom used to leave Bible verses around the house, so I enlarged two of them, her handwriting, and embroidered them. I finished the design off with pictures of her some with me and one with her mother, my grandmother, Ludie Strother.

This is the latest creation from the studio! "Meeples, Meeples, Everywhere!" was custom made for Michelle English - a very sweet lady we met several years ago at the BGG Game Convention here in the metroplex. Michelle said she had always wanted a Sunbonnet Sue quilt as a girl, but now she wanted a meeples quilt. For you non-gamers, meeples are little player pieces found in some newer games rather than pawns. So this was the final result.

The fabric was from a designer, Kaffe Fassett. I came up about 6 inches short so I had to improvise on the border and came up with the pieced triangle border with the gray thin borders on either side. The large meeples are all hand appliqued and the 4 smaller ones in the corners were machine appliqued. My artist friend, Tabitha Palacios helped me design the quilt pattern. The quilt pattern has other game icons - train, meeple, sheep, heart playing card and a bird. The name of the quilt pattern is "Let's Play a Game".

I presented the quilt to Michelle at the BGG Game Convention the Friday before Memorial Day. I had a great time making this quilt. I love the colors that Michelle chose - so bright and cheery.

I just added this quilt to my blog today. This was a fun quilt I made for my daughter-in-love, Faith Parry for a wedding gift. I found the Olivia fabric in a store in Granbury, TX and then based the colors on that fabric. I then found some clip art of pigs that were whimsical and fun and made candlewick patterns. I even found some sparkly red embroidery thread for the sexy hose on the pig with the fan. I had a lot of fun making this for Faith.

I'm very excited!! I am working on a project for a client that I met at the Game Convention a few years ago. The blocks are hand applique "Meeples" -- meeples are game pieces found in many games we play. I can't wait to finish it and share it with you guys. But first the client gets to see it!!

This was a fun quilt I made for my daughter-in-love, Faith for a wedding gift. She collected pigs. I found some Olivia fabric then searched the web for some free clip art of pigs which I then made candlewick patterns from them and candlewicked them. It turned out really cute.
