The best way to make your shower look more luxurious when using Zellige tile? Say no to trim pieces. Miter those edges baby! 🤎

For this shower, we used a 2x2 handmade zellige and had the outside corners mitered instead of finishing them trim. It takes more planning, skill and labor from your tile installer, but the result is a clean, seamless transition that lets the tile itself be the star. ⭐️

This detail was especially important around the arched shower opening. Adding a strip of metal or trim around that curve would have completely changed the look and for the worst!

We paired the deep chocolate zellige with warm wood cabinetry, brass plumbing fixtures, and cane inset panel cabinetry from Honey Cabinetry for another layer of warmth and texture. 🍯

Is skipping the trim worth the extra labor? For us, 100%. 🤎

Double islands for the win! Our rule for double islands: make one about function and the other about entertaining! In this kitchen, the island closest to the range is a true prep space, whereas the other island is meant for guest to hang out (aka get out of chef’s way) 🧑‍🍳

Painted cabinets might look the same at first glance… but what’s underneath matters. 👀

We’re comparing a traditional 5-piece maple door vs. a 1-piece HDF door and why we often recommend HDF when the goal is a smooth, painted finish.

With a 5-piece wood door, the natural expansion and contraction of the wood can eventually reveal hairline cracks at the joints. A 1-piece HDF door eliminates those joints, giving you a smoother, more consistent painted finish over time.

Neither is “wrong”… it’s about choosing the right material for the look you want and knowing how it will perform in real life.

Because pretty is important. But knowing why we specify something? That’s the designer part. 😉
