Remember those concrete pours we recently shared? Here’s the finished installation.

These custom bollard lights are now installed throughout this Ashburn backyard, and they completely change the space after dark.

Placed around the lawn, pool, garden beds, and outdoor gathering spaces, the fixtures become part of the landscape design themselves. Their intricate cutouts cast dramatic patterns across the ground while providing functional illumination throughout the property.

Repeating the design across the space also creates a visual rhythm that connects different areas of the backyard after dark.

🚫 More light doesn't always mean better lighting.

This home has plenty of illumination, but the lighting technique misses an opportunity to showcase its architecture.

Notice how much of the front elevation is lit with a similar intensity. Without areas of emphasis and contrast, the facade appears flatter and many of the home's best architectural details blend together instead of standing out.

These two trees each received more than 3,000 lumens of light.

Sounds like a lot.

But if you looked at the finished project, you'd probably describe them as... natural.
That's because good tree lighting isn't about throwing as much light as possible at the canopy. It's about understanding beam angles, fixture placement, and how light travels through branches and leaves.

These mature street trees frame the driveway and create the first impression of the property. We wanted them to feel substantial without stealing attention from the home itself.

Even better? They'll look different throughout the year.

During the summer, the dense canopy softens the light. As the leaves drop in winter, more of the branching structure will become visible, giving the trees an entirely new character after dark.

Great landscape lighting isn't static—it evolves with the landscape.
