The weather was too nice to stay indoors today.
So I took my drop spindle outside, settled in by the pond, and spent a little time spinning wool in the sunshine. The birds handled the background music, the water lilies were blooming, and Oli supervised from just off camera.

Sometimes the best studio is simply wherever you happen to be sitting.

Just another day in the studio.

Blending wool. Chasing color combinations. Making a mess. Cleaning up part of the mess. Making a new mess.

Oli supervised the entire operation and has no notes.

I'd call that a successful day.

Fi*****ng weight yarn isn't really my favorite.

I know it's beautiful. I know people make incredible things with it. But for me, it's a little too fiddly. I tend to enjoy thicker yarns where I can see progress a little faster and my hands are a little happier.

And that's one of the things I love about fiber arts.

We don't all have to enjoy the same things.

Some people love lace-weight shawls. Some love bulky sweaters. Some spin fine singles. Some make art batts full of texture and sparkle.

There is room for all of it.

Life is hard enough. Make room for the things that bring you joy.

We Are Still Here.
This Pride, I'm thinking about memory. About finding And the Band Played On on a library shelf as a teenager.

About seeing photographs of the AIDS Memorial Quilt spread across the National Mall. About the people whose names were stitched into fabric so they would not be forgotten.

As a fiber artist, I often think about what cloth can carry.

Story. Memory. Love. Grief. Hope.

This Pride, I honor those who came before, those creating today, and those still finding their place.
