Today, members of the Legerton Architecture team had the pleasure of attending the Rise and Thrive event as proud sponsors and community partners, alongside our founder, John Legerton.

It was wonderful to spend the afternoon learning more about the YWCA’s ongoing impact in our community and connecting with so many passionate local leaders, advocates, and organizations. We are incredibly proud to support the revitalization of the YWCA pool and to contribute to a project that will create opportunities for wellness, connection, and community for years to come.

At Legerton Architecture, we care deeply about building relationships and investing in the communities around us, and we’re grateful to be part of this journey alongside the YWCA. Thank you for having us!

Last Friday, we had the privilege of spending the day at Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry: Veterans Village, grilling and serving lunch, for a community of individuals who have given so much in service to our country.

We had the honor of sitting down, sharing a meal, and listening to the stories of the very people we are designing new homes for. Stories of service. Of resilience. Of loss, and of hope.

Many of these veterans have already endured more than most. After Hurricane Helene, some lost the little they had worked so hard to rebuild. They were displaced, and separated from the brothers who had become their family, the ones who made a place feel like home.

One resident shared words we won’t soon forget:
“Losing everything after being homeless was a special kind of hurt. And to be separated from my brothers, because there was nowhere to go, made me feel lonely. But I am so glad that we will have a new home soon. I am so thankful to be here, and for you all for helping make home, home again.”

That is why this work matters.

At Legerton Architecture, we believe design can do more than create buildings. It can help restore dignity, rebuild community, and offer a sense of belonging. Being part of this journey alongside these veterans is something we carry with us deeply.

We left the YWCA of Asheville’s Empower Hour feeling inspired, humbled, and deeply connected to the work being done in our community.

Wendy Legerton, AIA, Co-Owner & Principal, and Jen McMahon, Director of Operations, had the opportunity to listen to powerful and personal stories from YWCA staff. Stories that spoke to resilience, support, and the life-changing impact of their programs. It was a meaningful reminder that spaces are more than buildings, they’re places where people find safety, strength, and belonging.

Experiences like this are why we care so deeply about the work we’re doing to support the redesign of the YWCA’s historic pool. Understanding the people behind the mission helps us design with greater intention, empathy, and purpose.

If you’re looking for a way to connect, learn, and be inspired, we highly encourage attending an Empower Hour: https://www.ywcaofasheville.org/empower-hour-tour-of-programs.

✨ Keys in hand, a new chapter begins! This River Arts District mid-century modern home is officially welcoming its Owners home.

There’s something magical about the moment a house shifts from a project into a lived-in home, full of life, routine, and memory. One of our favorite features? A motorized, whisper-quiet window wall that effortlessly opens the home to the outdoors, creating seamless indoor-outdoor living. 🌿

At Legerton Architecture, our mission is to create contextually sensitive, sustainable designs. This home reflects that intention through its connection to the landscape, thoughtful material palette, and attention to every detail—from warm wood tones and clean lines to an expansive porch designed for calm, simplicity, and a sense of belonging.

We’re thrilled for our clients as they begin this next chapter and make this space truly their own. 🏡✨

This North Asheville home is starting to take shape, and there’s something really special about seeing it at this stage. Raw, honest, and full of potential. The wood is still unfinished, the details are still being worked through, but you can already feel the rhythm of the spaces and how the home will sit so naturally into the landscape.

During construction administration, we’re in it alongside the builder, walking the site, answering questions, adjusting details, and making sure the design holds strong as it becomes reality. It’s a hands-on, collaborative process, and honestly, one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

There’s still a lot to come, but the foundation (in every sense) is there, and it’s exciting to watch it all come together.

Breaking ground in Barnardsville 🏡

There’s something special about this stage of a project, when a vision starts to take shape in the earth itself. Foundation work is officially underway for this new residential home, with excavation and footings setting the groundwork for everything to come.

Set against the quiet beauty of the surrounding mountains and winter trees, this site is already telling the story of what’s ahead: a home thoughtfully rooted in its landscape, designed to belong here.

Grateful for the team on site bringing precision and care to these early steps, because a strong foundation is where it all begins.

Last Friday evening, the teams from Legerton Architecture and Sitework Studios traded drawings and job sites, for clay and creativity at AVL clay. 🏺

What started as a pottery class quickly turned into a fun reminder that great design comes from collaboration. whether we’re shaping buildings, landscapes, or a slightly lopsided bowl. From learning the basics of throwing clay to sharing plenty of laughs (and a few happy hour drinks), it was a great chance to connect outside of the office and celebrate the creative community we’re lucky to be part of here in Asheville.

We are grateful for opportunities like this to slow down, try something new, and spend time with talented collaborators and friends.

One of our favorite spaces in the Prairie Modern Residence—and truly the heart of the home. This kitchen and dining area was designed around food, family, and connection, with every detail helping create a place that naturally brings people together.

Rich wood tones and carefully crafted millwork add warmth and depth, while tall ceilings and expansive windows fill the space with light, making it feel both grounded and open at the same time. The contemporary lighting above the dining table adds a modern layer to the natural materials, creating a space that feels refined but still welcoming.

Just beyond, doors open into the sunroom, extending the experience of the kitchen and dining area and bringing in beautiful views and natural light throughout the day—perfect for everything from everyday meals to long gatherings with friends and family.

At Legerton Architecture, we believe great architecture is experienced from the inside out. That’s why we work closely with our clients not only on the exterior form of their homes, but also on the interiors—listening carefully to how they want to live in the space and thoughtfully shaping each room to support it. The result is a home that feels cohesive, functional, and truly personal.

🏞Creekside Landing 🏞

Nestled in forested mountain ridgelines, this home’s long, low rooflines, generous overhangs, and natural materials help it blend seamlessly into the landscape while framing stunning views from every corner.

At Legerton Architecture, we focus on creating contextually sensitive, sustainable designs that respond to both land and lifestyle. Creekside Landing showcases this approach, from its thoughtful placement along the mountain creek to rooftop solar panels that support sustainable, modern living.

We’re thrilled to see this home complete and to share a project that truly embraces its surroundings and sense of place.
