Why AI thinks your furniture quote is too expensive…
You can’t compare a Ferrari to a Honda or an E-bike.😜
I recently communicated with a CEO, Alex Shufford, of Rock House Farm family of branch, which includes:
All these lines are made and based in Hickory, NC.
Alex shared that they are getting calls to their customer service department on a regular basis because of clients taking quotes and comparing them in AI. They ask AI to tell them if the price is fair or “ what should the price”; or tell it to “find the best price”.
Most AI’s are trained to always answer with confidence and to extrapolate information based on what it’s given. If the prompt is not specific and tight, very incorrect, pricing estimates come back as an answer, along with wildly wrong ranges of what similar items should cost. Sometimes they even get completely wrong answers to product options questions.
Comparing luxury brands to selections from Ashley furniture and other mass market retailers is like comparing a custom built luxury home to a starter home, and wondering why the numbers don’t match.
There are differences in frame construction, cushion quality and durability, craftsmanship, warranty coverage, customization options, and expected lifespan.
AI can be great, but I’ll like him in the right information. Price matters. But understand what you’re actually buying matters even more.
Have you had any crazy answers come back to you?
