This is a long one, but in the spirit of keeping it real, I want to share my thoughts on the small business space as we head into another holiday season.
The economy sucks right now, and the world continues to feel heavy. Tragedy and burnout are starting to feel normal, and that’s something I think we’re all feeling in different ways.
Artists and small businesses are struggling to get by, and events have been slower than usual. I’m incredibly grateful to have a fulltime job that I love and to still pour my heart into Golden Moon Goods, but I know many creators rely on their art to survive.
My event this weekend was a quiet one, which made me even more thankful for the people who continue to show up for me, for my art, and for small creators everywhere. I want you to know that YOU make it worth it. And I don’t just mean the sales. The conversations, the laughter, the “what’s new?”, the updates about what’s hanging on your walls or what bugs you've seen recently... all of it makes the long hours, the setup, and the teardown worth it.
Because when you support small, you’re part of something so much greater. Every smile, every kind word, every bit of encouragement keeps this community moving forward.
Things are hard right now, and my hope is that this holiday season, we keep pushing the art and small business community forward, together.
As creators, I hope we don't lose sight of the glimmers of hope in those market day moments, even when they don’t end in a sale. Let’s lift each other up, encourage our neighbors and remind ourselves that we’re stronger together.
And for those shopping for gifts this season: please consider shopping local, shopping small, or creating something yourself. Art is an incredible outlet and making something yourself is an act of fighting mass produced items and big box stores. Let’s make a difference together 🩷
Thank you thank you thank you for being here, and for being a glimmer of hope in a dark world. You can find my event schedule through the end of the year at www.goldenmoongoods.com Hope to see you there to trade bug stories and smiles.
