After a long pause of in-person workshops, I am ready to host again! Join me with Strongfelt works & workshops of Lisa Klakulak in the Opulent Fibers Felting Studio in Ashland, Oregon this fall.
Workshops are held in Kristy Kun's new studio located on the property where she lives, just 7 minutes from downtown Ashland.
Completed in the spring of 2025, the studio building is specially designed for the purposes of felt making, with both wet and dry work having dedicated zones and equipment. The main floor workspace is flooded with natural light and an open design allows for flexibility with workstation layout depending on the days activities.
Kristy began holding classes in Fiber Arts in 2010, before she was creating her own artistic works in fiber. Over the years, classes have become more specialized with her own teaching as well as with guest instructors from around the world. Registration is open for Sculpting Hollow Forms with Lisa Klakulak. Lisa is an incredible instructor and students will be getting deep into pattern, form, and shrinkage. I'm thrilled have space to host again and thrilled with the opportunity to have such a knowledgeable instructor for this first class! Registration is open and space limited.

Lisa Klakulak’s 4-Day Sculpting Hollow Form Workshop
Learn techniques for layout/wrapping of various 2-D resist template shapes in a consistent thinness of wool fiber with artist Lisa Klakulak. Simultaneously integrate distinct areas of denser partial felt shapes to explore extreme differential shrinkage as a means of sculpting surface relief and unique hollow forms. Hand-stitched structural ribbing, steam blocking, and shellac stiffening will also be addressed.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the opening at PCA the other night! It was a fun evening sharing my work and meeting up with a few old friends. I am so thrilled by PCA's representation! Alexandra Becker-Black's gorgeous watercolors paired my sculptural felt are the perfect compliment. Show is up through the month.

I use several tools to take the stress of agitating and rubbing wool off of my hands and shoulders. Many felters (yes me too) use palm sanders to vibrate the wool… With these big thick layouts, I found this plate compactor to be a suitable upgrade. 😀 It is really a treat to use! I especially like that I can put my weight into it and full to very dense felt!
It is a relatively new tool in the U.S. Until last year these machines were only available as gasoline powered. The electric version is safe and much easier to use indoors.

Oh my... After a very long respite, and multiple studio moves (that I said would Never Ever happen again!), I am settled in the most incredible space for working and TEACHING! The schedule includes a MasterClass in my Southern Oregon home studio this June and a few select online courses that have been boosted and re-built, starting in March. I'm looking forward to these months ahead with students visiting virtually and others here for some real in-person felting, meals and conversation. -kk
