Late Victorian era sofas (roughly 1870s–1901) shifted from heavy, ornate Rococo Revival styles toward eclectic, comfortable designs, including the influential Aesthetic and Eastlake movements. While early Victorian pieces were intensely ornate, the late period introduced simpler, more functional designs influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and the Eastlake style, which favored straight lines, geometric forms, and incised carving over heavy, carved embellishment. This late Victorian period was also known for its deep-buttoned upholstery, luxurious fabrics, and coil-sprung seats, featuring darker woods like walnut and mahogany, as well as popular forms such as Chesterfields, tete-a-tetes, and specialized seating. We fell for this beauty of a sofa at first sight, and cannot wait to see where she lands next!

We love a good pair of chairs, and these babies are no exception. First in the queue is a stunning set from a recent pick in St Helens (more from this pick coming soon!), made of carved exotic wood from the 19th-century Qing Dynasty. Second are two beautiful mother-of-pearl inlaid chairs, also from St Helens, hailing from mid-20th-century China, with a sleek lacquer finish. Third is an early 1900s pair of pressed-back Arts & Crafts armchairs, oversized with impressive proportions and construction. Fourth is a set of farmhouse-style pressed-back oak chairs with bentwood arms. Fifth is a contemporary vintage set with soft velvet upholstery and a polished sled base. Last, but certainly not least, is the fifth set of balloon-back parlor chairs with cabriole legs, reupholstered and painted in-house by Savannah House.

This little online shop of ours has been up and running for about a year now, so we thought a little roundup of some of its current catalog would be a mighty swell idea!
