Choosing new flooring by color alone? There are a few other things you’ll probably be happier you considered first.

Traffic, maintenance, lighting, transitions into adjoining rooms and even the amount of variation in the flooring can all affect whether you love the finished result.

When choosing new flooring, don’t just look at the middle of the room. Look at the edges.

Where will the new flooring meet tile, carpet or another existing floor? Will it run up to a fireplace? Meet a staircase? Continue into a hallway? Transition at an exterior door?

Those details may seem small when you’re choosing flooring, but they can make a big difference in how finished the entire project looks.

Before making your final selection, take a walk through your home and make note of everywhere the new floor will begin, end or meet another material. It’s a simple step that can help you think beyond the flooring sample and picture the finished project.

What's the most important decision when choosing new kitchen cabinets? It might not be the color.

Where your trash goes, whether you choose drawers or doors for lower storage, how you handle corner cabinets, hardware size, cabinet height, and even where you keep your coffee mugs can affect how your kitchen works every single day.

Our newest blog covers seven cabinet decisions that aren't necessarily the most exciting part of a remodel—but may be the ones you appreciate the most when it's finished.

If you're shopping for kitchen cabinets in Athens, TN, read the full blog and visit Osment Flooring & Cabinets to start exploring your options.

It happens all the time. You love a flooring sample in the showroom. You take it home…and suddenly it looks warmer. Or darker. Or grayer than you remembered. Nothing happened to the flooring.

Your lighting changed. Natural light, warm light bulbs, cool LEDs, wall colors, cabinets, and even the direction your windows face can change the way a flooring color appears.

That's why we always recommend looking at samples in the room where the flooring will actually be installed—and checking them at different times of day. Choose your flooring for YOUR house, not just the showroom. Visit Osment Flooring & Cabinets in Athens to explore your options.

Should your kitchen floors match your cabinets? Not necessarily.

In fact, trying to make them match too closely can sometimes make a kitchen feel flat. The better goal is coordination—looking at undertones, contrast, grain, countertops, lighting, and how all of those finishes work together.

Our newest blog explains what to consider when pairing flooring and kitchen cabinets and why we always recommend looking at physical samples together before making a final decision.

White cabinets aren't all the same white.

Some have warm, creamy undertones. Others are brighter or cooler. Put the wrong white next to an existing countertop and you may suddenly notice undertones you never saw when the samples were separate.

If you're updating cabinets but keeping your countertops, bring a countertop sample with you if you have one—or at least several good photos taken in natural light. Flooring and backsplash selections matter too.

The goal isn't to choose the prettiest cabinet sample by itself. It's to choose the finish that looks right with everything else in the room.

Cabinet hardware may be one of the smallest details in your kitchen, but changing it can completely change the look of your cabinets.

Simple pulls can give traditional cabinets a cleaner, more updated feel, while k***s or more detailed hardware can add character to a simple cabinet door. Finish matters too. Brass and gold tones can add warmth, black creates contrast, and nickel finishes can keep things classic.

The best choice isn't necessarily whatever is trending. It's the hardware that works with your cabinet style, countertops, flooring, and the overall look you want for the room.

Kids, pets, spills, muddy shoes… your floors deal with a lot. If you have a busy household, choosing LVP involves more than finding a color you love. The construction, wear layer, maintenance needs, and even the amount of variation between planks can all make a difference in how your flooring works for everyday life.

Our latest blog breaks down what to consider when choosing luxury vinyl plank for a busy home, including what to know about wear layers, color and undertones, maintenance, installation, and why you should always look at more than one flooring sample before making your decision.

A flooring sample can help you narrow down your choices, but remember that a small piece won't always show you exactly how the finished floor will look across an entire room.

LVP and hardwood-style flooring can include intentional variation between planks. That variation helps create a more natural finished appearance, but it also means you should consider the overall look rather than focusing on one individual plank.

When you're comparing flooring, look at several pieces together and consider how the color will work with your cabinets, countertops, walls, and natural lighting.

Visit Osment Flooring & Cabinets in Athens and let our team help you find flooring that works with the entire room.
