Six kopeks. That’s how much my parents remember paying for this cookie at school.🤍
If you grew up in the Soviet Union, you might remember Molochny Korzhik (Молочный коржик), a simple, golden milk cookie sold in school cafeterias and bakeries.
For me, this cookie represents a small but meaningful connection between Soviet life and Bukharian culture.
Growing up in Soviet Central Asia, Bukharian families had their own rich culinary traditions at home, while everyday foods like these cookies became part of their childhood memories.
Looking through these old photographs of my mother’s childhood, I think about how much history lives in the simplest things.
My parents still remember the taste of these cookies, and even the six kopeks they paid for them.
Decades later, such a small detail can bring back an entire childhood.
I’m sharing the recipe on the last slide, for anyone who remembers them or would like to discover a little taste of that time.
Did you grow up eating Molochny Korzhik? Do you remember how much they cost?
