This Sunday is Father’s Day!
Anyone who knew daddy knew he was a father figure to a lot of young men along their way in life. A huge influence to some!
Especially those he coached at Fork Valley State College where he taught before going into business for himself .
The home at 89 Hightower Road was one of the most memorable homes we lived in . The 11 acres where we roamed with our friends. Rode our horses , picked apples, figs, persimmons and all kinds of fruit. Dad building bbq pits and cooking ribs, Boston butts and chickens . Having bonfire parties… those were the good ole days!
Love and Miss you daddy!🙏🏽❤️

When I was a little girl my dad bought me a pony. The pony was a little but wild and ran away with me. Daddy and Alvin (a fam friend) ran after him and caught up to us. I was holding on for dear life. He must of run for a whole 2 minutes through the trees brush. Finally he came to a screeching halt. Daddy was so mad with that pony! He gavehim a spanking and sent him packing. The next thi.g I knew I was riding a burrow. LOL! What a childhood experience! I didn't see another horse until I was maybe thirteen. This pony in the pic took me back to those days while I was out walking a trail.

THANKSGIVING holidays just caught a break from the grind of subbing. Y'all remember "Dream" by the Everly Bros? Well I had a dream the other night that I walked into my joint and this guy was working and I walked around to the back and I saw Andy and Jean all close together smiling...Whenever I want to go back to "The Place, all I have to do is dream, dream, dream adding prayer and my dream may come true one day.

Stirring the sauce was one of my jobs to do. "What do you want me to do now daddy?" I would ask my dad .
And he would say one word "Stir". as he added the secret ingredients to the pot of sauce that he was making. I watched with "eagle eyes" and I stirred!

I want to give thanks to God for allowing me to have parents like Virginia and Ernest Alexander. Growing up in Atlanta Georgia was so special for us . A lot of people still remember the parties Carmen and Margaret used to have at the house on Hightower Road. The bonfires in the field with half of Turner High there. The horses that we shared with everybody that came by.
Now , with the special recipe that Daddy taught me how to make I am continuing to make his famous "Come-Back "Barbecue Sauce.. People put it on EVERYTHING , also the barbecue ribs and chicken and brunswick stew recipes with the Aleck's "rub-down" seasoning.
Soon we may be opening another Aleck's somewhere in the Atlanta area!

A Little Aleck's Trivia
Did you know that the cobblestones on Aleck's Pit and the facade of the counter and the outside of (the other place next door) ;) at MLKing Jr Dr which used to be known as Hunter Street, were removed from the Hunter, Raymond and Chestnut streets? Did you know that when they tore the building down I made a very special request to save the stones. More on the stones later.
Can you guess where the stones are now?
Let me know and the first one to answer will get a free bottle of Aleck's Famous Come-back Barbecue Sauce. 160z.size
