Initially called Mel's Sales and Factory Bedding, Mel was passionate about the community, and supported many worthwhile endeavors to the benefit of the local community. ouncil of the city of Atlantic City adopted an ordinance to adopt an additional name for the block surrounding Mel's Furniture - known as Melvin Weinberg Way. In addition, on October 7, 2010, the Mayor of the city proclaimed the day "Melvin Weinberg Day" in honor of his numerous contributions throughout the years. Since the untimely passing of Mel in 1980, his sons Phillip and Ron have followed in their father's footsteps.
