Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, observed in Oklahoma as Native American Day.

There are 575 federally recognized Tribal Nations in the United States, each a sovereign government planning, building, and investing for the generations ahead. Roads, water systems, schools, health facilities, and airports on Tribal lands are more than projects. They are the groundwork for self-determination.

Good infrastructure work in Indian Country starts with listening. It means respecting cultural resources, engaging communities early, and designing for the long term, not just the next budget cycle.

Long before the survey line and the flight path, this land was known, named, and cared for.

Today is Native American Day. We honor the First Nations whose knowledge of land, water, and sky is the oldest engineering tradition on this continent.

A road is never just a road.

It's how a child gets to school, how an elder reaches care, how a business finds its customers and a community stays whole. For too long, some of the most essential connections in Indian Country were left unpaved and underfunded.

That is changing. A historic commitment to Tribal infrastructure is turning long-overdue promises into graded roads, sound bridges, and safer routes home and Tribal Nations are leading the work, on their own land and on their own terms.

At Circa81 Design®, this is the work we were built for. As a Native Woman-led company, we carry projects from first survey to final grade, with respect for the land and the people it belongs to.
Development isn't done to a community. It's built with one.

He was told there was no place for a Black engineer. He built the infrastructure that proved otherwise.

Archie Alexander earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Iowa in 1912; the first African American to do so, then spent a career building what communities run on: bridges, highways, viaducts, sewage and power systems, even the airfield at Tuskegee. Much of it still carries traffic today.

This is the discipline at the heart of Circa81 Design®: civil, aviation, and infrastructure work built to outlast us.

Precision that endures is its own kind of legacy.

On September 3, 1922, Bessie Coleman took to the sky in her first public flight; the first ever flown by a Black woman in the United States.

Refused training in her own country, she learned French, crossed an ocean, and earned her license abroad. She returned as the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license, and she flew on her own terms.

Aviation has always advanced because someone refused to accept the ceiling. That conviction lives in everything we build: the runways, the systems, the infrastructure that keeps flight moving forward.

We honor the ones who rose first.
