Taking a pause to social media brag. Since my plate's been really full juggling family caregiving and trying to maintain physical health, artwork has really taken a backseat, never mind entering exhibits. I've done five this year, and when fall rolls around I like to have been in 7-8. So I was thrilled to get this email today, as juried shows give me a psychic Vitamin B shot in self-esteem!

"Thank you for entering your artwork! We’re pleased to let you know that our juror, Amor Díaz Campos, has selected your work for the next UVMA exhibition, Connections. We had more than 90 entries, of which she chose 30."

Right now, "Are You My Mother?" holds particular meaning to me, as I am going through the process so many people my generation (Xers) are, which is coping with the process of our parents aging, and trying to put the pieces together. I am so appreciated of Amor Díaz Campos for finding some resonance in my piece.

Continuing to work on "Gabriel'sHare" tonight, I'm addicted to this particular shade of Rembrandt' 620.3 green which just gives a perfect moss, I buy mine singly at Berry's Stationer in Oakland because it needs regular replacement. I wish so badly this painting looked THIS cool and 3D irl, but it's a trick of the light, he is more faded looking and purple-ish. He is very photogenic.

"Gabriel's Hare." A dear friend told me today is the Feast of the Archangels, and while I'd actually really hoped I would be "finding" a bear while I worked today I found this guy and his rabbit instead. After some intense googling I discovered Angel Gabriel is the guardian of Hares...or he works his healing through them, or...something, something....I wanted to use my trusty eraser and get some feathers out of the paster, but found myself spiraling. 18x24 mixed media paper, just padtel at the moment. He may be done-ish except for fixatif, but I'll know when I see him tomorrow.

Taking a break from my usual IG art content to give a shout-out to The Cat's Familiar, a cat cafe in Gardiner, Maine. In addition to coffee, tea, and baked goods, with happy cats aroud, a separate room is essentially playland for cats in need of forever homes...who spend their days being pampered and adored until they find the right family. For now, they are pet therapy in a clean "living room", where actities such as "tarot with cats", "paint with cats", "yoga with cats", and "movies with cats" happen on special nights.

On top of providing healing services to our community, The Cat's Familiar is the business keeping P.A.L.S. no-kill pet shelter open.

Tonight we watched Zootopia 2 and had rootbeer and popcorn with Seargant Broccoli and...I honestly can't remember the other one's name. These two already found their families, but apparently enjoy hanging out at the cafe. I don't blame them.

UPDATE: Not going to bring Angel to Boothbay. She's mine for the winter.

If this painting ("Angel of the Morning" looks familiar, it's because it's been "finished" so many times before, but I spent this afternoon re-boosting the gold leaf, bumping up the colors, and 3-D-ing the Dee more and think --except for the missing "Rachel R" in the corner it is DONE, done, fr, fr and going out to BRAF Gallery tomorrow to be entered in the juried ArtinME show which is XXL pieces only. If it doesn't get in I'm not brokenhearted because I would rorally buy her and won't be sad to have Angel brighten my living room this winter.

I am so honored....Just discovered the poster for this event whilst scrolling! Not sure I get to go to the Saturday reception, now due to recent circumstances 🙁 but I'm looking forward to seeing this show at some point between now and October 3....And I really like the promo! Opening 5:30-7PM on September 19th.
