👽🌿 This weekend I went full sci-fi in a jar!

I built this whimsical terrarium complete with cows, aliens, and a glowing UFO. (Yes—the cow is actually being abducted!) From moss and ferns to handmade wire supports, I tried to make this feel like a real scene caught mid-abduction.

Terrariums are such a fun way to blend art, nature, and imagination—and sometimes you just need a little weird to make the green pop. Would love to hear what you think!

📍 Catch me at local markets or message me to custom order your own tiny world (I unfortunately do not ship though so I only take local commissions).

Let’s talk light! ☀️🌱

One of the top questions I get about terrariums is where to put them—and the answer always starts with lighting.

Terrariums are like tiny greenhouses. That glass traps heat fast, so too much direct sunlight can turn your cozy mossy world into a sauna. Not ideal for your ferns or moss!

Here are a few lighting tips:
✅ Bright, indirect light is perfect
🚫 Avoid direct sun near windows
💡 Grow lights are great if your space is dim

A good rule of thumb? If you’d be comfortable sitting by the light for hours, your terrarium probably will be too.

A quiet, cozy moment under glass 🐾💤

This little terrarium came together around one of my favorite peaceful scenes — a cat taking a well-deserved nap, surrounded by soft moss, winding branches, and tiny green leaves. There’s something about creating these miniature spaces that feels both calming and magical.

Sometimes the simplest builds, the ones that feel like a breath of fresh air, are the ones I love the most. 💚

What kind of peaceful scene would you build in your own tiny world?

This build turned into something a little magical 🍄🌱

I love the way the tiny mushrooms, soft moss, and a curious forest friend came together in this one. It feels like a little corner of a storybook — tucked away and waiting to be discovered.

That’s the best part about terrariums: they’re more than just plants. They’re stories. Tiny, peaceful places where imagination can grow.

What would you put in your own tiny world?

This weekend’s build turned into a cozy little mossy tea party ☕🌿
I love giving my terrariums stories, and this one feels like it’s just waiting for tiny woodland creatures to show up and take their seats.

There’s something really peaceful about creating these little worlds — the mossy seats, the tree stump table, the tiny tea set — it all came together to make a quiet moment under glass.

What kind of scene should I build next? I'd love to hear your ideas!

🎹 Tiny concerts, big stories.
This piano terrarium came from the idea of a long-forgotten piano, sitting in the woods and slowly becoming part of the landscape. The moss, the texture, the overgrown feel — it’s like a living diorama where nature takes center stage.

What I love about terrariums is that they aren’t just about plants — they’re about creating stories and little worlds that you can lose yourself in.

This one feels peaceful, a little bit mysterious, and definitely one of my favorite builds so far (I think I say that for every new build tbh).

What’s something you’d like to see featured in a future terrarium?

I found this old milk jug while thrifting and couldn’t resist turning it into a little moss pasture — complete with miniature cows 🐄🌿
It’s playful, peaceful, and has just enough detail to make you take a second look.

This is what I love most about terrarium building: you can use anything as your container and create a whole world inside. The moss felt like pasture grass, so the cows just made sense.

Now I’m keeping an eye out for more vintage glass — because clearly, moss and milk bottles belong together 🥛💚

Meet the unsung heroes of my terrariums: isopods and springtails 🐜🌿

They’re tiny, quiet, and absolutely essential in maintaining a balanced ecosystem — especially in closed builds.

🌀 Springtails help prevent mold by breaking down fungi and organic waste
🌀 Isopods munch on dead plant material and enrich the soil as they go

Together, they create a bioactive cycle that keeps the environment clean and self-sustaining — no mold outbreaks, no rot, just a little living ecosystem doing its thing.

They may not get the spotlight, but they do the dirty work... literally.

This orchid lives in a glass planter layered with leca, bark, and just enough moss — and she’s thriving. 🌸🌿

Orchids need light, air, and quick-draining roots, so this setup gives a full view of the structure and helps prevent overwatering (a common orchid heartbreaker).

The trick? Let the bark dry slightly between watering and keep the roots airy. Glass makes that easier to monitor — and adds a little dramatic flair, too!

Have you ever grown orchids in anything besides a traditional pot?

One of the things I love most about building terrariums is how many types of moss you can play with 🌿
Each one brings a different shape, texture, and personality to a scene.

✨ Cushion moss grows in little poofy mounds — perfect for soft, storybook vibes
✨ Sheet moss hugs the ground and fills space like a lush carpet
✨ Mood moss is tall, curly, and brings moody forest-floor energy
✨ Haircap moss (like the one in this bottle!) gives that miniature wild forest feel

They’re not just green — they’re alive in different ways. If you’re building your own terrarium, try mixing moss types for contrast and movement!
