Hank's Cane & Rush Restoration

Hank's Cane & Rush Restoration Our passion is restoring memories one chair at a time. We would love to hear your story! Every chair we see comes with a story or has a story yet to come!

Society has been using wicker type furniture since the start of civilization. Natural-rush furniture has been found in Egyptian tombs dating from 4000 BC and it is thought that hand caning originated in China centuries before Europeans saw their first caned furniture, such as the chairs seen in Dowager Countess of Grantham Violet Crawley's sitting room on the PBS series "Downton Abbey". Hand canin

g and rush seat weaving are dying art forms and it is our intent not to let that happen. Our mission at Hank's is to restore your chair/furniture while refreshing the memory that accompanies it! Or possibly it's a chair with memories still to unfold! Don't throw that chair out without talking to us first! ~ Lynn

I am hosting The SeatWeavers' Guild Gathering this year! And our plans are coming along!

Friday after check-in we will have a short (30 minutes) welcome and intro to the retreat center and the schedule.

Friday evening - Chicago Style Pizza and Movie night (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) OR dinner on your own. The cost will be determined by how many folks join us for pizza.

I will have a popcorn machine for the weekend and movie style candies for Friday night.

We have 4 classes scheduled.
Lark Knot Danish Cord Bench with Sue Muldoon
Using Caning Needles with 4 strands with Mary Beth Lodge
Fancy Patterns with Faith Blackwell
Rush Weaving with Tim Smith

We will have two classes after breakfast for 90 minutes; after 45 minutes we will have the participants switch classes if they would like to go to the other class or they can stay where they are. We will repeat this after lunch with the other 2 classes.

Tips, tricks and tools will be Saturday afternoon following the afternoon classes.

Saturday evening after dinner there will be a “roundtable discussion” about best business practices for those who would like to participate.

Sunday will be our Annual meeting and our roadshow will be at Blackberry Farm from 2pm-5pm.

If members are staying after The Gathering, Bob and I will host a group to Chicago and the Architectural Tour that Monday. We will most likely take the train for that. There will be a sign-up at registration and participants can contact me before The Gathering for details and their ticket. There are always Groupons for under $25 per ticket.

Be on the lookout for registration at the end of February! Plenty of time to make your summer plans and join The Seatweavers’ Guild if you are not already a member!
