Sally Cardwell and Julie Boxberger have been working together on design projects for about eight years. Introduced by a mutual friend, their friendship grew based on a common interest in design, eventually becoming the partnership it is today. Sally has more than 20 years of interior design experience, both residential and commercial, while Julie has a law background - with design and interiors be
ing a longtime passion. Both have several years of experience supervising remodel and construction jobs, having built their own homes and remodeled many others. The pair have opened A Custom House primarily as an office and studio, to meet with clients and collaborate on projects. It also functions as a space to showcase lighting and lamps, mirrors, antique furniture, art and accessories currently in inventory - and as a space to show and sell pieces so that they can continually update their stock with new and interesting products. Their design philosophy is understated and classic - with a fresh perspective. They recycle and re-purpose clients’ existing furnishings as much as possible so that the space is personal and fresh, but not overly designed. They combine natural elements like wood, seashells and stone with linen and natural fibers. They like restraint and simplicity in design. In their own words, “We love layering textures and strive for a collected feel with an eye towards proper scale and proportion. We like modern lines next to a gilded carved mirror, and we love rough surfaces next to polished ones. We like unexpected surprises - but our ultimate goal is for a space to feel comfortable, inviting and serene. “
