Chioco Design Contributing to the built environment in Austin, Texas

Chioco Design is a firm concerned with creativity and the economics of designing and making architecture and interiors. Our residential and commercial projects explore challenges unique to site, program, material and environmental and economic issues. We investigate solutions that are inventive, honest, and responsive to the entire scope of problems presented by a project. The realization and success of every project is accomplished by careful collaboration between client, consultants, designer and contractor.

Working with what’s already there, and thinking about what it could become.

For this conceptual study, we looked at the space between inside and out, using a new façade and more landscape to create a softer, more inviting edge along the street.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of George Scariano, co-founder of Royal Blue Grocery.

We began working with George and Craig Staley in 2006, and over nearly two decades our collaboration with Royal Blue has meant a great deal to us. George was one of a kind—gregarious, generous, caring, and always full of life. His warmth and energy made working together truly special.

Our hearts are with Craig, George’s family, and the entire Royal Blue family. We are grateful for the many years of collaboration, trust, and memories.

We will miss George tremendously.

Design begins with questions, and sketching is an effective way to both ask and answer. Here, we have 3 facade studies for a single ground-up building. Each one explores connectivity to the outdoors, the pedestrian experience, retail frontage, and community engagement.
