Let's talk about water damage. Water and most flooring don't mix well over time. While there are some types of specialty vinyl flooring like EcoGrip and ProtectAll that are chemically bonded to provide a waterproof seal even up to 5 inches of standing water, all flooring can become damaged over time if water is left standing or seeping under into the subfloor. Most floors are easily maintained by simply vacuuming or dry-mopping excess water, but when water gets under the surface and stays pooled between crevices or layers it can cause irreversible damage. Here we can see how the surface of this hardwood floor has become discolored and started to show evidence of cupping and buckling due to water seeping into its crevices from a leak in the refrigerator and toilet. If you see a water leak on your appliances it's best to contact someone immediately to avoid costly flooring repairs and replacements.
