Mrs Terry's Horse Hair Pottery Beautifully hand made pottery that I apply horse hair on it while still hot. The horse hair leaves beautiful marking and no two are alike..

Horsehair Pottery

The ancient native Indian tribes made this pottery to honor a favorite horse or to celebrate the birth of a horse. It is said that this pottery was first created when a long-hair maiden was removing hot pottery from her kiln and the wind blew some of her hair onto the hot pot and burned the hair into the pottery. From there the maidens would try other things like horse hair from

the mane and tail, wood, plants and other animal hair to decorate there pots. I try to offer a wide selection of Horsehair Ceramic Pottery. This style of pottery lends it self to figures as well as the classic pot shapes. Horsehair Pottery is beautiful and collectible. The pottery is poured or hand made than fired for a period of time after which it is removed from the kiln, and hair from the mane and tail of a horse are draped on the pottery. The tail hair created the dark bold lines and the mane created the fine lines. The hair creates dark lines and smoke from burning into the pottry and the smoke creates the cloudy tan to gray areas. Because horsehair pottery must be porous in order to achieve the effect, it is not to be used as a water vessel for fresh flowers, unless sealed inside.. Its use is solely as a piece of art to enhance the decor of your favorite room or to make a statement about your appreciation of your horse.

I am feeling pretty bless, I have just finish 1 year long process of getting rid of Cancer.. It was a pretty intense process to go through.. Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy. I have finished all those treatments and now starting Hormone therapy for the next 5 years..

My shop has been closed for a year and has dire need of me to come back in and play with all my goodies that have been waiting on me...

I will be opening back up in March 2019.. Tues, Wed, Thurs. That is about all I can handle for right now, due to the cancer treatments.. When I get my strength back I will be open more days and possible on Saturdays.

I will still be doing Horsehair Pottery on consignment and new item for my shows I attend at the end of the year.
I truly miss hanging out with some fantastic Artist at last years shows in Bakersfield and Parkfield..

I am looking forward to offering hand building workshops with slab clay work, I don't have a throwing wheel at this time, but what the heck you still get to play in the clay... so for those of you who want to explore and hand build this is for you...

I will also have more choices on glazes for mid range firing which is 5-6. Stoneware clay for cups, bowls, serving platters and oven stoneware. These will also be microwave safe too..

I thank you for being very patient with me and all the prayers for what I have been going through. Sometimes life sends us down a different path and we have to deal with it to get back on track.. I just want to say Thank You So Very Much.
