We style spaces to about 80% complete, and it's completely intentional. A room that's too perfectly finished feels untouchable, like no one actually lives there. I was at one of my client's parties this past weekend, and honestly? Seeing what they'd added since we wrapped was one of those full-circle moments I love most about this work, about 10% more layered in like: their own pieces, their own touches, right on top of what we built together. They took the foundation and made it theirs, and that's the whole goal, every single time. The best compliment isn't a perfect reveal photo, but rather walking into a client's home later and seeing their life woven into everything.

This one has been so fun to share. Water views, a dining room made for long dinners, and honestly the wallpaper is where this whole house started. That green botanical print in the dining room just set the tone for everything that came after. We brought in brass, florals and gold accents and decided to leave the windows exposed to highlight the water view. It's the kind of table you just never want to leave. Swipe through, there's a lot of good stuff in this one.

The question I get more than almost any other: “But will it survive my kids?” And the answer is always: with the right textiles, yes. Beautiful and durable are not opposites; you just have to know where to look. These are the brands and lines I reach for again and again when a family needs furniture and soft furnishings that take real life and still look elegant years in. And thank goodness for CFAs and our process to make sure the right material actually gets cut. That step saves us everyyy time.

A little July in review. The kiddos had so much fun, from Swim Team to Camp Wright and all-day boogie-boarding beach days. Saw Benson Boone live, and celebrated a family member’s marriage! Hope your summer is just as full. What was the highlight of yours?

Strong opinion and I’m just going to say it. Lighting is the most underestimated decision in any room. You can get everything else right and still walk in and feel like something is just off. And I would argue it’s the lighting almost every time. People treat it like something you figure out at the end and that’s where it goes wrong. It has to happen at the beginning of the project, before the walls close, before anything gets finalized. We talk about this with every single client from the very first conversation because that’s how important it is.

We are deep into Harry Potter over here. We’re watching the movies because the school year is over, and now they actually want to read the books, which honestly was the goal the whole time. I’ve always thought the books are so much better but I didn’t want to just tell them that. They had to want to find out for themselves. So now we have our whole summer reading situation figured out. If you’ve read them, which one is your favorite? We need to know what we’re getting into.

So my organizer came in for the pantry, and she pointed out that I’d been storing everything in its original packaging, which I thought was totally fine. She was like, “Maggie, those boxes were designed for a grocery store shelf, not for your home.” And I mean, she’s right, and now I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. And it’s funny because it’s kind of the same with furniture. A sofa looks perfect in a showroom because the showroom was designed around it, but your living room isn’t a showroom. So that’s really where having a strategy matters, because what works beautifully somewhere else doesn’t always work for how you actually live. Scroll through this post because I’m sharing the strategy we actually use. Oh, and in other news, one of my favorite large family hacks is that you can schedule all five kids at the dentist at the same time. Two other families with five kids were there doing the same thing, and we had plenty to talk about.

The Mortons are officially beach bound for six weeks, and I could not be more ready for it. Every summer we need this unplug, it’s the reset that carries me through the rest of the year. Salty toes, ice cream cones, family bike rides, bonfires at the beach...I love sharing all of my favorite childhood summer memories with my own children.
