Like so many great ideas, Words with Boards® grew from humble beginnings. We are Kim Strassner and Mike Pararas, a Baltimore based couple with backgrounds in product development and design. We fabricated our first cutting board from leftover butcher block as holiday gifts for friends and family. To give the pieces added interest, we personalized the boards by carving words into the wood.

traveled fast, as did their popularity. The personalized cutting boards were soon selling at retail markets and gift shows. In 2015, Words with Boards® was named a Martha Stewart AMERICAN MADE Design finalist and we were also featured on Oprah's Favorite Things Holiday List 2015. Today, amid the sea of choices for cutting boards, Words with Boards® is the only company that hand-cuts words into the wood. Crafted from sustainably forested American hardwoods, the one-of-a-kind boards are made and hand-finished in our newly expanded studio in Baltimore’s eclectic Hampden community.
