I love how unpredictable wood can be. Turned from a fallen Michigan black walnut, this piece had knots, color shifts, and plenty of character — all of it came together in this lidded bowl. The shape is simple, but the wood tells its own story.

From the lathe this week — a Canarywood lidded box with a Black Walnut base and finial. The deep golden grain and rich walnut tones came together in a shape that feels both grounded and graceful.

This project was a challenge, but I'm very happy with the result. Black walnut bowl with choke cherry branch slices in resin. The bowl is approximately 12 inches in diameter. On display and available at Great Lakes Art and Gifts in Old Town Lansing for you to take home.
