Join ICAA Louisiana at Fireside Antiques on Thursday, October 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM for an intimate evening exploring the dialogue between French decorative arts and Louisiana architecture.
Interior designer Laura Roland, owner of Fireside Antiques, and Architect Kevin Harris, FAIA, will discuss how historic French furnishings and architectural traditions share enduring principles of design—proportion, scale, geometry, symmetry, materiality, ornament, and craftsmanship.
Drawing from Fireside Antiques’ collection of European furnishings and Kevin Harris’s experience in residential architecture, renovation, and historic preservation, the conversation will explore how historic objects and buildings inform one another. Together, they will consider how traditional materials and methods contribute to durability, comfort, functionality, and the long-term stewardship of architectural interiors.
The discussion will also touch on how European design traditions have been adapted to Louisiana’s climate, culture, and building practices, offering insight into how historic precedent can inspire thoughtful, context-sensitive design today.
