THE HAUNTED FLOWER SHOP — PART 5
The Wreaths
This story is a little different from the others.
One weekend, I was thinking about someone we had lost who had been a big part of the flower shop.
His birthday was coming up, and I was missing him.
I started thinking about fall and how he'd be asking me what my plan was for decorating the shop—and probably coming up with some fabulous ideas.
Then I thought about the stack of twiggy fall wreaths stored up high in the storage room at the shop that needed to come down for the displays.
They'd been sitting there for several months.
Monday morning, we walked into the shop.
Those very wreaths were on the floor.
Nothing else had fallen.
Things don't normally fall from those shelves.
Those wreaths had been sitting there undisturbed for several months!
And there they were.
Now, I'm not going to tell you what made them fall.
I don't know.
Maybe something shifted.
Maybe there is a completely logical explanation.
But considering who I had been thinking about, what I had been thinking about, and the timing…
I just stood there looking at them.
And yes—
Fall went up shortly afterward. 🍂👻

Mysterious happenings at MSFC continue. Movement catches my eye when nothing is there, sounds that make us wonder. Upon researching we learned that MSFC isn't the only shop that has strange and unexplained things happening. The next chapter to our Haunted Flower Shop series are stories from fellow florists. And trust me, these stories will leave you with goosebumps!

THE HAUNTED FLOWER SHOP — PART 4
The Mystery Truffle
Not all of our unexplained flower-shop mysteries are creepy.
Some are just really freaking weird.
One day I was in our storage room, where we keep supplies, extra chocolates and assorted shop stuff.
Inside a bucket containing decorative rocks we use for terrariums, I found something that definitely did NOT belong there.
A chocolate truffle.
With what appeared to be teeth marks in it.
My immediate thought:
Oh no, mice!
So we went looking.
Every box of chocolates was inspected.
No chewed packaging.
No droppings.
No nesting material.
No other evidence that we'd had a tiny chocolate-loving intruder.
And nobody at the shop claimed responsibility for eating part of a truffle and then thoughtfully placing it in a bucket of terrarium rocks.
To this day, I have no idea how it got there.
Ghost?
Mouse?
Human with some very questionable snacking habits?
I have no answers.
But somewhere out there may be a paranormal entity who apparently enjoys chocolate.
Honestly, I respect that. 👻🍫

Our final story about MSFC is coming, and if you think the truffle mystery is weird, you'll really start to wonder about the shop with this next one. After that, stay tuned because we have a lot more ghost stories from other shops to share with you!

Yesterday's memorial tributes featured a stunning combination of rich purples, vibrant magentas, and fresh greens.

👻 THE HAUNTED FLOWER SHOP — PART 3 👻 Things Fall
Let me start this one by saying something very important:
It's a flower shop. Things fall. 😂
We have branches, plants, displays, decorations, and approximately 47 million things tucked into every available space.
But sometimes things fall that make us stop and wonder… HOW?
We have branches incorporated into displays that are intertwined and secured specifically so they CAN'T just randomly fall.
A couple of times, branches have fallen anyway.
One morning, shortly after opening, I discovered a branch lying on the floor. The strange part? There weren't any branches hanging above it. I couldn't figure out where it had come from or how it had gotten there.
We've also found plants tipped over.
Then there was the decorative leaf.
Just recently, a decorative leaf hanging from a branch fell right in front of me. I'd just walked back into the shop, so could a gust of air have caused it?
Sure.
But here's the interesting part.
I'd hung those leaves the day before, and one of them was bothering me. It was hanging too close to another leaf, and they were exactly the same height.
I knew someone who used to create those displays would have been bothered by it, too. Someone who is no longer with us.
In fact, I'd even said out loud:
"I know this will bother you, but I'm leaving it!"
Guess which leaf fell the next day?
Yep. THAT one.
Recently, a sign attached to the front counter with glue tabs suddenly fell off.
And every once in a while, the front door chime goes off…
…but the door never opened.
Could every single one of these things have a completely normal explanation?
Yep.
Do we still occasionally stare at something lying on the floor and think,
"Okay… which one of you did that?"
Also yep. 👻😂
Our next TWO stories, however, are a little harder to explain.

THE HAUNTED FLOWER SHOP — PART 2
“Hellooo?”
This one still gets me.
It was a warm Friday evening, right before closing, and I was alone at the shop.
I had the back door open and was standing literally a couple inches inside the doorway enjoying the warm sun. I stood there for probably five minutes, facing toward the front of the shop the entire time.
Our shop has a very open floor plan. From where I was standing, I would have seen someone come in.
Eventually I closed the back door and walked toward my workstation to clean up.
That’s when I heard a woman’s voice.
“Hellooo?”
Not yelling. Almost questioning, like someone had walked in and was wondering if anyone was there.
I immediately answered:
“Oh, I’m sorry!”
Because obviously I thought I had somehow missed a customer.
I walked onto the retail floor.
Nobody was there.
And I could not figure out how anyone could have entered without me seeing them.
Then—
BANG.
A loud noise came from inside the walk-in cooler. It sounded like something had hit one of the metal shelves.
I went inside.
Nothing.
As I stepped back out of the cooler, I heard shuffling coming from the retail floor.
I checked again.
Nothing.
No customer.
Nobody in the cooler.
Nobody on the retail floor.
I left a little early that night!

The next stories will leave you with questions, and so far we're still looking for answers...

THE HAUNTED FLOWER SHOP — PART 1
Something Feels Different

After sharing the stories from the Portland house, it’s probably time we talk about the flower shop.
Because every once in a while, Main Street Floral Company gets a little… weird.

Both Viki and I have been alone in the shop at different times and suddenly felt uneasy. Nothing necessarily happens. There’s just that feeling that makes you very aware that you’re there by yourself and you begin questioning, "Am I alone?"

And then there’s the cologne.
Every so often, we’ll suddenly smell what seems like perfume or cologne.
Yes, we sell candles. Yes, sometimes we have candles or scent burners going. We know what those smell like.
This isn’t that.
Sometimes nothing scented is burning at all.
It appears…and then it’s gone. I stepped out one day for a brief moment. Upon my return I noticed a strong cologne smell. I mentioned to Viki that the customer who must have just left had a lot of cologne on. Her reply, "There hasn't been anyone in"

Could there be a perfectly reasonable explanation?
Absolutely.
But after everything that happened in the Portland house, I tend to pay attention when something feels a little strange.
And apparently, the flower shop was just getting started. 👻

The next story, let's just say it was frightening enough that I left early that day!

👻 THE PORTLAND HOUSE — FINAL CHAPTER
I Never Went Back Alone

Eventually, we moved.
We kept the Portland house as a rental, and for the most part, that strange chapter of our lives was over.
Until one evening between tenants.
I was driving home from work and decided to stop by the property to make sure everything was secure.
As I exited the freeway, I suddenly started feeling ill.
The closer I got to the house, the worse it became.
Then came a feeling I can only describe as impending doom.
I wasn't going there looking for ghosts.
I wasn't thinking something was going to happen.
I was simply stopping by a property we owned.
But when I arrived, the feeling intensified.
I walked around the outside, checking to make sure everything was secure.
Then I went onto the front porch.
I unlocked the door.
And opened it.
Why was the inside so incredibly dark? We always left a light on, but the inside of that house seemed pitch black.
Heavy.
Ominous.
I can't explain it any better than that.
Every instinct in my body suddenly told me:
GET OUT. Something didn't want me there.
I slammed the door shut.
Locked it.
Ran back to my car.
And left.
I never returned to that house alone or at night again.
Could there be perfectly reasonable explanations for the things we experienced there?
Maybe.
The cats staring at something we couldn't see.
The picture that wouldn't stay straight.
The carousel horses turning around.
The lamps.
The blinds.
The whispering woman.
The running water.
The doors and footsteps.
The little boy in the living room.
The children's graves behind the house.
The speaker somehow ending up against our front door while we were gone.
I can't prove what caused any of it.
I can only tell you what happened.
But I can tell you one other thing.
I didn't go into that house as someone who really believed in ghosts.
I didn't leave it that way.
And years later, this time in our flower shop, I'm beginning to think its all happening yet again...
