Designs by Mary of Hawaii I design unique sewing machine appliqué patterns for quilts and wall hangings. I create a design that is "cut-out" shows the Negative (black) area. Thank you

I design unique machine applique designs based on images and photographs that I have taken from around the big island of Hawai'i. One can then use the "positive/leftover pieces" to create another totally different shell-back design on another turtle. I also have created a set of Hawaiian tropical flowers. I plan on introducing a series of Southwestern designs, cactus flowers, and wildlife that is also native to the Desert Southwest! Keep your eyes open for an announcement soon.

6/5/25 around 12:30 am and Kīlauea volcano’s episode iwakālua kūmāhā (24) is underway.

USGS HVO reports that lava fountains are reaching heights of more than 1,000 ft (300 m). Large lava flows are covering Halema'uma'u crater floor.

Plan to visit despite the late hour? (Or is it early?) Bring a flashlight 🔦 or headlamp!

Here’s what else park rangers need you to know:

🌋Expect the park to be busy and stop-and-go traffic through the construction detour near the entrance.

🌋The speed limit is 5 MPH (FIVE) through the detours.

🌋Park in designated areas only. Do not block emergency access or traffic lanes.

🌋Stay AWAY from cliff edges and to keep your keiki (children close)!

🌋Pedestrians: pay attention to traffic and use sidewalks and crosswalks.

🌋Stay out of closed areas. There are great views of Kaluapele that are open all along Crater Rim Trail and old Crater Rim Drive

🌋Be prepared! Bring water. Due to ongoing construction, bottle filling stations are temporarily unavailable.

🌋Be patient and bring your aloha.
