Fall is my favorite time of the year. In my eyes, it’s the most beautiful season of all!Although the cold, dreary days and dormancy that follow in winter are my least favorite, I’m reminded that God has a purpose for every season.
As I sat admiring the beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow on my tree, I found myself feeling a little sad as I watched those vibrant leaves quickly fall to the ground. Something so beautiful was coming to an end, and I wished I could hold on to it just a little longer.
But as I watched, God reminded me of something.
Isn’t life a lot like the changing seasons?
Just when we become comfortable in a particular season of life, change is often right around the corner. Sometimes we see it coming, prepare for it, and even welcome it with open arms. Other times, it catches us by surprise, leaving us feeling uncertain, afraid, or reluctant to let go of what we’ve known.
Whether we welcome it or resist it, change is inevitable. But what if, instead of fearing it, we learned to see it through the eyes of faith?
Just as the trees must shed their leaves, sometimes we must let go of things in our own lives that no longer serve God’s purpose for us. It may be an old way of thinking, a comfortable routine, a familiar place, or even a season we desperately wish could last forever.
Fall reminds us that letting go is sometimes necessary for new growth.
Winter reminds us that periods of stillness are not wasted seasons. Even when we cannot see what God is doing, He may be preparing us for what lies ahead. What appears dormant on the outside may be a time of important growth beneath the surface.
Spring reminds us that new beginnings are possible. What once seemed lifeless can bloom again, often in ways more beautiful than we imagined.
And summer reminds us of the joy, warmth, and abundance that can follow seasons of waiting.
What if the very thing we’re afraid to let go of is keeping us from experiencing what God has waiting for us next?
Maybe you’re standing at the edge of a new season right now. Maybe you’re grieving something that has ended, struggling with an unexpected change, or wondering why God is allowing you to walk through a season you never would have chosen for yourself.
Please remember this: Just because a season is changing doesn’t mean God has abandoned you.
We may not always understand the timing, and we may not always like the process, but we can trust the One who sees the bigger picture. He knows what we cannot see, and He is faithful through every season.
So, as the leaves fall and the trees prepare for winter, I’m choosing to remember that endings aren’t always something to mourn. Sometimes, they’re an invitation to trust God a little deeper, release what we cannot hold on to, and make room for what He is preparing to do.
Embrace the season you’re in, trust God through the changes, and have faith that He is already at work in the season to come.
