Our Story

Hey there! We’re Studio SMC – let’s be friends!

We’re a small design firm squatting in Beaver, PA, providing commercial design services all over the US-of-A. Office space is our specialty, but not our entirety. We also service the hospitality, assisted-living, industrial & warehouse, educational, and commercial aviation fields. We do it all! No project’s too big, no designer’s too small! (Wait, was that just a Paw Patrol reference??) But really – we’ve completed single jobs as small as a 120 SF office, to as large as 138,500 SF!

Let’s talk where we came from. Sam -- the boss lady -- has a pretty cool story about how she got us here. Starting in the facilities department at Kimberly Clark in ATL, she was tasked with learning AutoCAD – like, AutoCAD version 1 (enter dinosaur emoji here) – Sorry, Sam. Being the dedicated employee she was, Sam took on that task and taught herself the software. Fast forward a few years, she was moving back to PA and in search of a job. A furniture dealership here in PGH was hiring, and in the need to teach their employees CAD… *light bulb*. Sam, having no furniture background, accepted the position and shook hands on terms of trading her CAD skills for furniture knowledge. After putting in many years at the dealership, becoming an expert in furniture as well as continued experience in the design field, Sam decided to be her own boss.

In 1999, she had the vision to build an interior design firm that operated on the values and ethics that she practiced every day and is now recognized by her clients nationwide. Sam pursued that vision and started SMC Consulting. She built her firm, reputation, and client-base one project at a time (can you say, boss b*tch?! – get it girl!) Being a single employee/owner of the firm required working days and nights to complete all of her project tasks as promised to her clients… *yawn*.
