Custom Candle was born from a need to find that perfect candle. I needed an eco-friendly, non-toxic, and long-lasting candle that had an aroma that would last long after the candle was extinguished. Many companies made these claims, but I found they fell far from the mark. It was more than just a preference for me – it was a need. With my family suffering from allergies and asthma, we could not fi

nd an ideal, non-toxic candle. To that end, I decided to start my own candle company. We worked long hours to perfect our candles and scents. We wanted to stay as “green” as possible. We created all-natural candles with great designs by using recycled bottles. We wanted to give the bottles a second life and new purpose, instead of filling landfills. Handmade designs are what I think makes the perfect custom candle unique. All our candles are hand poured and only use all-natural soy in high-quality natural products. Creating a custom design was our goal to set ourselves apart from those who just make claims they can’t deliver. A custom design also lets us spread our creative wings and gives you something special to bring home. The result is what we think makes the perfect candle with a hand poured unique production process. The candles are made of only the highest quality, which is what our customers come to expect and deserve. We keep it all-natural and simple, so why complicate the name – and Custom Candle was born.

Candles go back thousands of years, but the earliest versions were not quite the same as the candles we use today.

Around 3000 BCE, ancient Egyptians used rushlights — reeds soaked in animal fat. These gave light, but they did not have a true wick.

Later, the ancient Romans are generally credited with creating the first true wicked candles by repeatedly dipping rolled papyrus in melted tallow or beeswax.

At that time, candles were practical tools. People used them to light homes, help with travel after dark, support religious ceremonies, and make it easier to work once the sun went down.

So before candles became part of home décor, gifting, and self-care, they were part of everyday survival and daily life.

Every home is different because every person living in it is different. The tricky part is figuring out what feels like you and making it look cohesive.

The Difference Between Types of Candle Wicks

The wick may look like a small part of the candle, but it affects how the candle burns, how the wax melts, and how steady the flame stays.

Cotton wicks are one of the most common types. They are braided cotton and give a clean, steady burn when matched with the right wax and vessel.
Pros: reliable, simple, works well in many candle styles.
Cons: may need regular trimming and can mushroom if the candle burns too long.

Wood wicks are thin pieces of natural wood that create a soft crackling sound while burning.
Pros: cozy sound, stylish look, wide melt pool.
Cons: can be harder to relight if not trimmed properly and may be more sensitive to wax type.

H**p wicks are made from h**p fibers and are often used by brands looking for a more natural wick option.
Pros: natural material, steady burn, good for eco-conscious candles.
Cons: can burn faster depending on the wax and may not work for every vessel size.

Paper-core wicks use cotton wrapped around a paper center to help the wick stay upright.
