The Skirted Soldier
Rhonda Smith, Air Force Veteran and CEO, launched The Skirted Soldier in March 2018 to give back to female veterans, as the company donates 10% of sales to female veteran organizations across the country that assist with housing, employment, education, entrepreneurship & single parent resources. To date, the Skirted Soldier has donated over $50,000.
Currently, we have tea in 37 states at over 200 locations. We provide both retail packaging and loose tea by the pound. Our products are sourced from member cooperatives and CSAs- preferably military owned, and our organic tea is sourced from sustainable farms all over the world. We do well in coffee shops, boutiques, cafes, bakeries, bistros, welcome centers, farm markets, outdoor shops, and gift shops.
We are certified through Homegrown by Heroes and PA Preferred. We are insured; PA Dept of Ag inspected and operate as a single member LLC in Pennsylvania. Our company was featured on the TODAY show and the cast continue to source & consume our tea on air.
We set up at local farmers markets and local vendor shows to not only sell tea, but to educate the community on issues facing female veterans in America. We also educate the public on clean, healthy eating and we are proud members of the Pennsylvania Veteran Farming Network.
Locally, we provide both monetary and in-kind donations to fundraisers that support law enforcement, first responders and military related organizations. We attend local farmers markets and utilize local ingredients where available and donate tea to church groups, nursing homes and other entities that promote community giving and those that promote servant leadership. We donate produce throughout the summer from our small farm to local shelters and low-income housing markets throughout our area. We’re members of the PA Veteran Farming Network, the Governor’s Council of Female Veterans, and Horizon Farm Credit Young, Beginning & Small Farmer Advisory Committee. We often volunteer for food drives, backpack programs, clothing giveaways, highway clean up and fundraising events that benefit those in need in our local area.
With our #1 mission of giving back to female veterans, we’re honored & humbled to share that we’ve donated over $50,000. We partner with non-profits whose mission assists female veterans with similar challenges that Rhonda faced when transitioning from active duty to civilian life. This includes stable housing, employment resources, single parent support, educational opportunities, & entrepreneurship opportunities with an end goal of self-sufficiency.
What started at the family’s kitchen table in Blue K**b has quickly grown from 6 signature tea blends to over 40 hand crafted, artisan recipes. New to the lineup is the addition of functional teas, as the family has a deep respect for functional medicine. Rhonda’s daughter Emma and husband Dan (Veteran) help during the busy seasons and we’re honored to continue growing and supplying communities with our organic hand-crafted tea.
